Surely a decent human being will want to help someone who is getting bullied anyway?

    Unfortunately not.

At the end of the day they're paid to teach and of course it's absurd that most of them don't care about their students' wellbeing but that's not really part of their job.. Ofc you get a few of those compassionate teachers who actually care but they're doing it out of their own kindness and time

Yeah, I'm not saying I would ignore them, I'm just saying from a teacher's point of view.

It's usually because it's too much hassle, and the teacher will often think it's just childish teasing

I think some teachers are too afraid to intervene.

Because it takes more effort than most teachers can be asked to put into their job.

Good teachers would care in my opinion.

Teachers always find it much easier to punish the victims...

OFSTED don't grade them on how well they deal with bullying. Also, a lot aren't trained to deal with it and/or are completely oblivious to it. Teachers at my school walk past fights and sometimes laugh when students get harassed in their lessons.

Because it's a lot of effort and a lot of hassle. It's rarely ever as simple as some chav beating up the little nerd, it's usually gossip and teenage drama which is pretty much impossible for them to do anything about or monitor, unless you want them to monitor your bullies 24/7 and hack their phones.
