Ah ok, a lot of the more structuring trading desks can be like that.(Original post by Princepieman)
Was structured rates, remember something about balance guaranteed swaps

You'd be surprised.. Derivs traders can be super nerdy imo, I didn't see much of this banterous behaviour when I shadowed a rates derivs desk. It was more reserved and quiet.

really? They probably continued with their laddish bants after you left. I can't imagine a trader being quiet lol -

There are different types of traders.. If they're on an exotics desk it'll mostly be filled with nerdy types lolLast edited by serions871; 03-06-2016 at 19:16. -

ok coolio. According to M&I, fixed income is usually more reserved than equities. Although I'm sure an introvert could still survive if they go out of their way to provide good bant and pretend to be a boisterous lad haha

Traders are some of the meanest coldest people you'll meet lol, not exactly soft and cuddly

Guys, let's let this thread die down. We've established the following:
- Some traders are lads
- But not all are
- Equities > Fixed Income in terms of banter
- The more quantitative the desk, the less laddish it is usually is and the lower the quantity (but not necessarily the quality) of banter is
- Not all traders are douchebags- the majority of them are nice people who like making money. Also, squish562 doesn't know anything about trading.
- If you're going into trading for the banter, why not just start a pub or comedy club instead? -

What rates derivatives desk was it? If it was rates exotics I wouldn't be surprised (as it's pretty much the most quantitative trading desk) but rates options (vanilla and simpler exotics) shouldn't generally be like that.
