Most of the religious people I know are openly racist / homophobic, so most of my opinions do come from first hand experience, even if i wasn't the subject of it.
Once again what church do you go to!!
I went to a church in South Africa where there were as many black people as white people, getting on like a house on fire. Growing up my brothers best friend was black who he met at church. Some Christians are homophobic, but so are some Muslims and even people without religion. I personally am not homophobic and so are most of the people who attend my church. We think that it is wrong but that doesn't mean that we dislike anyone who is gay!?

Certainly putting the mental in fundamentalist there OP.

I think you'll find that most "cracker" communities are cohesive, of course if you integrated into British society properly you'd know this. Sunday dinner is also a feature in a lot of households even if the church bit isn't any more.

Interestingly a load of OAP's from one church in my area refused an invite for tea and biscuits at another church round the corner as they're from a different sect. Not very cohesive is it?
