The BBC is a beloved institution in this country. I'd have thought that the Union Jack waving Kippers would be very keen on keeping it.

    No.
I loved the BBC but then along came a shouty, annoying ginger man with his American pretend friend, and an assorted bunch of nobodies to ruin my Sunday evenings.

Despite the faults of the new Top Gear I think this might be an ever so slight overreaction.

The argument I had the last time this was submitted still stands. I do not think it's remotely appropriate to give a government department with no remit in financial matters the job of valuing the privatised company. They have no experience in this area.

Changes have been made to the new version in all clauses to state the government departments shall contract the valuation, and the process of the sale to a private financial organisation specialising in the area, the Speaker should post the correct version soon.

Saracen's Fez This is not the version I sent you in the private message earlier, this is a copy of the original version that has not been rewritten.

Eh, I don't think my eyes are deceiving me but the version in the OP is exactly the same as the one that was previously submitted.

Edit: Ah ok, so it was a mix up then.

I would have backed this up until the great work Channel 4 has done over the Tory expenses issue.

Like whatever the editors want to do

By any chance did they also cover the same stuff with all the other parties, or could the Tories take them to court?

Nay. Not only is privatising anything bad, the BBC stands head and shoulders above all other British television (and, indeed, radio) in the quality of programming, and it would be a terrible shame to see that risked by making it simply another private broadcaster.

I assumed that when you tagged me with the original version in the subforum that was the version you wanted me to put up?

This is exactly the reason for my opposition to this bill. Even channel 4 has great quality which is rare fjr television. The beeb is of immense importance when it comes to soft power, top gear was watched by people all over the world, as is doctor who even to this day. Shows like watchdog and panorama are brilliant too. What makes anyone think someone like Murdoch will improve the bbc and channel 4 is beyond me.

I do enjoy that people seem to think that ownership rather than employment determines quality, if there is this alleged quality on a low budget then what do you expect a bigger budget to do?

One of the main reasons the Beeb is so excellent is that it doesn't need to fit with profitability standard, and so can experiment rather than producing generic content.

Which is why it produces so much generic content...

I mean, sure, but at a much lower rate than any private production company, certainly in the UK, and possibly worldwide.

could you suggest some good, non generic, popular content created recently?

Start with almost everything on Radio 4 and go from there.
