I know. I know it's just completely ridiculous and I'll probably get accused of ****, but I really, really like her.

I met her in a band, where she sings and she's just really funny, smart, witty, just generally a really cool person. I don't think I'd DO anything with her (like, that'd be paedophilic), but, I just love spending time with her, and being with her. She has this huge grin which makes me happy (ridiculous, I know. I think I'm a goner)

I don't mind waiting a few years, and neither does she, because we know how weird it'd be for both our families, but, am I crazy?

It's just the age that's the issue, but we understand each other so so well, and I can't imagine living life without her.

She'd probably roll her eyes at the sappiness of this. Tbh, this is really out of charcter for me. But I mean it. I really do. I can't express it in any other way.
inb4 Plumstone comes in and explains her situation about her boyfriend being 12 years older and its okay and gives her opinion that these relationships are always wrongly construed by everyone.

ANYWAYS, it's not wrong just maybe wait until she's 18? After Highschool, no-one cares who you're dating.

the age of consent is 16, so it's fine
but even if she was younger than 16 - if she's pretty obviously consenting then I don't really see a moral problem

It's weird, but just lay off it bro, when you're 18 no-one cares, you're an adult and you could date an 60 old goldigger but anyone knows, it's not classed as anything and the age gap is suddenly a thing of the past. If you want her and to stay on the safe side, date her at 18.

To everyone who's telling me to wait until she's older, I completely intend on doing that. I'm definitely waiting until she's 20, not before. And yes, that's how much I like her.

It wasn't intentional. She used to come to me for advice on A-levels and all that, and we just had a laugh most of the time. She's one of the only people who can keep up with my banter (and actually match it lol) and she knows the clear distinction b/w when I want to have a serious conversation and when I want to loosen up, something I think even girls my age are not very capable of doing.

And that grin. Gods.........I don't think she even knows how MUCH I like her. But it's mutual, so I'll wait.

If fails the half plus seven rule which strange as it sounds, I think makes some sense (for a 26 year old that means someone 20 or older, as long as they are under 40).

Do you live in some part of the world where the age of consent is really high?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the age gap but I'm curious why older guys in their late or mid 20s date teenage girls.
Thank God I'm not the only person who finds this ****ing weird.
It's not a huge age gap but the gap in your maturity from your teens to your twenties is enormous. Her brain hasn't even finished developing yet, she lacks the ability to reason and be prudent like an adult can.
    I'm 23 and I can't imagine hanging round with a 17yo. It's creepy.

I dunno, she is still a child in the eyes of the law - you said neither of you mind waiting, so maybe wait until she's in her 20s??
A 'child in the eyes of the law', in this context, is anyone under 16.

Unless you're american (or live in any other country where the age of consent is higher), why bother waiting?
Seems like a waste of time to me, it's not like she's ever going to catch up to your age, you're always going to be one stage ahead. But tbh there is a wide range of maturity from person to person anyway, age doesn't guarantee or define your maturity.

Not paedophilia at all, she isn't a young child plus she's of legal age.
All I know though is that the age isn't such the issue, it's that you both are in such different places in life and don't see I why grown adult men are attracted to teenagers barely finished school and still living at home.

You need to make sure the relationship will last and isn't going to just be a few months thing, as your going to create a label for yourself with people you know your whole life (family/friends).

It's perfectly legal, but the last thing you want is something that won't last 5 minutes and be stuck with a child snatcher label for the rest of your life. lol

If it was because of the age difference then I think it's alright as long as you truly like her! Man I saw a 56 year-old man married to a 27 year-old women because they really love each other and if that's not weird, then your 100% fine

I know someone who was 18 and started dating someone who is 26 and they have a very hard time. It looks a lil creepy. No parents are happy but put up with it. Shes given up what she wanted to do to work where he works. And they both lost friends because of it. The guy was looking for commitment and to settle down so she missed out on the "partying years". If you really like her go for it but it will be difficult, more so for her

Go for it, just keep anything sexual out of it for a while. No nudes (possible child porn) or actual sex. Since she's 17, it's not long to wait.
    Why no sex?
