No, too much scope for it to be 'misused'
Considering it could and would never be passed without outside medical approval how exactly could it be 'misused'?

That doesn't make you any less of a murderer.
I'll be the first to bring religion into this- only God can give and take away life.
Tell that to the chap weilding a shot gun or the oik with a knife.

    or Pulling the plug

Yes, but it should not go as far as it has in Belgium where they have euthanasia for children, people who suffer from treatable conditions whether physical or mental, and even non-consensual euthanasia for some elderly patients who weren't even terminally ill. It should be strictly for adults psychologically capable of making the decision (or who expressed a clear wish before they lost such faculties), who are either terminally ill or have a non-treatable condition causing severe chronic pain.

Yes, but only when there are strict protocols in place to protect people.

They should have to prove significant loss of quality of life and that people are not being pushed into it (though I have no idea how to prove this).

I can't imagine being so desperate ... Must be awful

I miss neg sometimes. If you're feeling suicidal the last thing you need is to be called a murderer or made to feel guilty for feeling that way. :indiff:

Reachin4TheStars My question is, would it be paid for by the state?

I think you've missed the whole point of this thread.
We're talking about assisted suicide here, not suicide.

I know what this thread is about, but you said killing someone (out of love, or even killing yourself) = murderer. That is ridiculous.

And if they don't believe in God? Why should someone be denied the ability to take away their own life simply because of a myth that has no substantial evidence to support it?

I respect your belief in God but don't force it on others.

Then no. I think that is not the job of the state, our mental health provisions aren't even that good. So people who haven't even received the right help would opt for the assisted suicide route. Also, there is research being done on whether ketamine + plus psychedelic drugs can be helpful for depression, they've shown to be promising. I would be up for discussing it if it was self-paid.

Killing someone else is murder though? I thought everyone knew that...?
Show me where I said killing yourself = murderer

You said "only God can give and take away life" meaning that anyone who takes away life (even their own) is a murderer.
