No, that's the entire point. The apps are making Facebook turn ****. I don't want to have to search all over the place on people's profiles past "honesty boxes" and annoying music that starts up as soon as the page opens and various other piles of crap whenever I want to find something - that's what myspace is for. But my complaint is really that they're just not apps any more. I don't want better apps, I want less stupid apps - I mean, "1 new vampire invitation" barely counts as an application.
Of course it is a problem, but if you make a good app, then people are less likely to fill their pages with crap. As for apps, i have a few on my page, but i drag then to the bottom of the profile out the way.

I was just thinking this today, I went on for the first time in about a month and people's pages were swarming with stupid things. All the top friends and music malarkey is turning it into myspace

I've only really added the Graffitti application, which has lead to some sweet pictures from my friends, but apart from that, the applications are pretty dire. Whoever came up with TopFriends obviously has none themselves, or has a deathwish with those who don't make the top 32. And things like Vampires and Werewolves and Zombies. Evidently a moron who came up with it, and morons who use it. We know facebook is partially (if not wholly!) a waste of time, but these applications are a pointless waste of time, which is what I object to most!

I quite liked facebook before the applications. However, I think that the worst ones are the zombies & vampires ones.I keep getting invited to them. It's bloody annoying.

i like the old facebook. especially the name of your school/ university being at the top right hand corner. i reckon they got rid of that just to be fair to everyone- well those that go to unheard of polytechnics.

Someone got into trouble with their Uni (Oxford) because they posted films of celebration after exams (confetti etc). The professors and college faculty decided to look up her face book!

ooh i read about that! pretty hi tech and with it i'd say for the dons.

    8 unread emails this morning.

All application invites. I don't know why I bother with these sort of things. Apparently Microsoft and Yahoo are thinking of making a bid for facebook (if what I heard on the World Business Report this morning is correct anyway).

I dont mind some of the applications, they're quite fun like for example the Graffiti one and the Honesty Box (which always gets some very amusing comments :P)

Though I really hope Facebook never lets you customise it the way you can on MySpace, thats the one thing I loathe about MySpace!

Well, yeh i guess, but i meant customize 'myspace' style.
Not being able to do that is why I prefer MySpace. I like the freedom of design and choice MySpace gives. Sure, a lot of people abuse the ability by shoving 500 videos on their profile or make their text unreadable, but that shouldn't mean the rest of us who put effort into designs should suffer.

It would be quite easy for FaceBook to allow such customisation yet have some user preferences such as "over-ride the user's style sheet" or "don't play music/videos on the user's profile" for those who prefer the basic default layout. And perhaps have a list where you can input profiles to be excluded from those preferences. MySpace should do that too, but they would have to redesign the way profile editing is done.
