Spiders. I understand they are useful as they eat smaller insects, but I am terrified of them. OK, not so much the small or medium sized ones you get in the house. But the big ones..to me they are monsters. All rational thought goes out the window when I see a large one in the house. I literally think it has come indoors to kill me. Not in an insane way. I don't think the spider is actually going to strangle me, LOL. But I do genuinely believe at that moment, when I am confronted by one that if I don't manage to kill it first, it will kill me, because I will die of fright. My heart races, the sweat pours out of me and my hands shake. The only way I am able to kill one of the big ones because I can't, CANNOT go near it to squash it, is to fill the kettle and throw boiling water at it. It kills them instantly, even the big ones, but it has to be boiling water or else they don't die, and as much as I hate them I wouldn't want one to be alive still in agony with very hot water thrown over it. But with the boiling water, it's all over. When I was a little girl, my dad sometimes used to throw spiders at me "for a laugh". Or he would pretend he had caught one and hide it in his hand, and then chase me around the room with "it". I would run away screaming, absolutely terrified. It started when I was about 5 or 6 and continued until he died when I was 10. Having experiences like that "does" something to you, that stays with you forever. I will be 49 next month. Spiders are still monsters to me, even after these years.
