For me personally I would rate Jacque Kallis above Sachin Tendulkar in the modern era

I am not going to say the best cricketer but some of my favourites include: Jacque kallis (Statistically and theoretically, he is the GOAT because cricket is not just about batting or just about bowling but BOTH) Adam Gilchrist, Chanderpaul, AB de Villers, Amla, Brian Lara, Sachin tendulkar.

Kohli genuinely has the ability to become the GOAT. I see him compared to Root, Williamson, ABDV... but he's a cut above.

I know this is late but top 10 at the moment in tests:

    1) Steve Smith
    2) Virat Kohli (I know he had a bad series against Australia, but still)
    3) Joe Root
    4) Kane Williamson
    5) Quinton de Kock
    6) Younis Khan
    7) Alistair Cook (will be interesting to see how he plays without the captaincy)
    8) Cheteshwar Pujara (still needs to perform better away from home, but has been in excellent form at home)
    9) Hashim Amla
    10) One of the SL youngsters, not sure of their name but they have been consistent in recent test series, if I remember correctly.

    In no order:

    S Smith (AUS)
    D Warner (AUS)
    J Root (ENG)
    A Cook (ENG)
    V Kohli (IND)
    K Williamson (NZ)
    Younis Khan (PAK)
    ABDV (SA)
    H Amla (SA)
    C Gayle (WI)
I know I posted this seven months ago, but it's amazing to see how much things change. Pujara easily makes the list these days.
