We have the point of view from the person outside the train looking at the light clock.

Assuming the distance between the light clocks (vertically) is one meter, can you use Pythagoras to work out the time it takes for the light to travel from the bottom mirror to the top one according to the outside observer?

    Start off with (ct)2 = 12 + (vt)2

Wait what do ct and vt mean?
    Velocity time?
    Speed of light time?

Yes. We know that distance = speed multiplied by time. So they give distances

The speed of light is a funny thing and really, really counter-intuitive.

It takes about 8 minutes for light from the sun to reach us. If you were in a ship going the speed of light towards the sun, you would expect that light that left the sun at the same time you left the earth would reach you when you and it got halfway along - So the light would approach you at 2* the speed of light.

But that doesn't happen. For some reason. It still takes 8 minutes for the light to reach you, because it doesn't matter that you moved relative to the light itself. THIS IS INSANE.

You would expect if you were travelling away from earth at the speed of light that any light from the sun would never reach you. That, also, is lightspeed changing relative to you. That also doesn't happen.

THIS IS INSANE AND LIGHT IS CRAZY!

The speed of light is 'c', for 'constant'
