I can see what your trying to say here.
But there's not alot of animals which can be used for fur which are slaughtered for meat. I suppose there's leather but that's not really fur. And I really can't see anyone wearing sheep's wool unless its made into a jumper and this can be done already without having to kill the animal.

I suppose it all depends on what meat you eat but really there isn't many animals which are eaten for meat that can be used for fur.
That's only really based on the meats that are considered conventional to eat in this country, if you go to other countries you will find a large variant on meats that are considered acceptable to be eaten and some of them have fur which could be used, this idealistic view would be unlikely to happen though, which is why I find it easier to just be against fur full stop.

This is pretty much my thoughts exactly. I am by NO means any type of animal rights activist...but it just seems that today there is no real need for fur as a clothing material other than preference alone.
I don't even think anyone needs to be wearing fur anymore as the winters aren't as cold anymore and there is plenty of other alternatives available which provide just as much warmth as a fur coat would.

The only people who I think have reasons behind wearing fur are eskimos who have to wear it as they have nothing else available for them to wear and its an essential to keep them alive.

No excuse for people wearing it otherwise.

    So I agree.

There is to much of a demand for meat for farmers to start thinking about the fur of the animal aswell. This is why I also think its unlikely to happen. It would take alot of time and effort to obtain the fur of each animal which is being slaughtered for meat this is why it isn't already being done. That is probably why there is already fur farmers who specialise in slaughtering animals for there fur. So this also why I choose to be against fur completely.

I'm against fur, mainly because wearing the skin of another animal seems gruesome to me.

I personally think that pro-fur people are a bit backwards... I can understand that fur was necessary in the past to keep warm but we don't need to breed and kill animals specifically for their fur now that we've got thousands of alternatives.

I'll play devils advocate here. I think most people on this thread are being completely hypocritical. Whilst I wouldn't wear fur as I have no desire to and I am male lol, A lot of you are just spewing rubbish you've been force fed without even thinking about it. If the animals are farmed for fur and killed humanely (same way as cows are for meat), then whats the problem.

How is it somehow wrong to kill animals for vanity, yet its okay to kill them because you like the taste of meat. You dont need the meat to survive , in addition to this there are subitutes for meat, quorn. But its the same thing fake meat and real meat arent the same, and fake fur and real fur arent the same the difference is quite obvious. Killing animals simply because you like meat more than quorn is vain and selfish also. Also the old its so gruesome to wear animal skin chesnut keeps being churned out, how come its not gruesome to wear animal skin shoes, or have a 3 piece suite made of the skin of a once living breathing animal sat in your living room, but its okay and not guesome since its a by product?? Also did it ever occur to some people the some cows are bred for meat, and others leather, its not as simple as take the meat use the leather.

I wouldn't wear fur myself, but we use animals for food, to experiment on, and to do jobs so it's obvious they're regarded as property. Why not for clothes? (Along the same lines I've never understood the bestiality laws either).

And why only fur? I think it's because the animals are cute and fluffy. You never seem to hear the same amount of protest against leather or snakeskin.

Anti-fur,but because I think it looks tacky. If the animal's being used for meat though I'm not bothered.

I wouldn't wear fur myself, but I wouldn't say I'm particularly anti or pro fur. I'm indifferent to be honest, I don't know enough about it really.

I would hope that if you knew more about it you would be more towards anti fur. I think most people would be if they knew more of the facts.

Well, its up to you whether you care or not. I can't really change anyone's views on it. Find it selfish that you haven't really considered how the animal got killed and how vulgar you probably look wearing it.

I'm against it because unless you're an Inuit, it's unnecessary.

However, I can't stand all those "Fur Izz Murder!!!1111!!!!" hysterical activists that pollute the internet - to the extent that it almost makes me want to go out, kill the nearest animal and wear its fur in protest :p:

i think it depends on the way the fur is obtained ( against skinning animals alive) . if the rest of the animal is used usefully as well then it's fine.
i'm against it personally - not asking for sympathy or anything but cruelty against animals makes me livid. but i think simple_things has bought up a good point.

if there's joint supply i.e. the other parts of the animal is used for something else (i can't think of any...but for arguments sake...) then perhaps it's ok...but i am certainly against skinning them alive.

I don't like how it looks and since there are plenty of alternatives I don't see the point. PETA has a video on its site of foxes being flayed alive for their fur and it is one of the most sickening things I've ever seen.

I am definately against. Animals shouldn't be killed for fur. People should just use fake fur if they wanted to wear fur.

    Yeah agreed.

There is plenty of fake fur available and some of it looks exactly the same as what you would expect from real fur. I don't like the look of fur but i'd rather people wear fake than real.
