Lucinda williams (her Car wheels on a gravel road album was fantastic) Sara Evans, Alana Levandoski, Dixie Chick (Taking the long way and wide open spaces) and Buddy Millers worry to much (single). I alos like Alan Jacksons Where were you when the world stopped turning (on that September day). Pity country music is so much under rated in the UK

contemporary pop country is pap. Bluegrass/americana/country rock/country blues/older country can be amazing.
Definitely agree with you there. The "pop country" kind of stuff that does well at the Country Music Awards, for instance, is just the same over-commercialised rubbish you'd get in any other genre. I'm a big fan of the more rootsy old-timey bluegrass and gospel tunes though. I think the movie "O brother where art thou" did a great job of bringing that kind of music to popular attention.

Us UK Country Fans Are Diamonds In The Rough!
Too true! I'm an absolute country fanatic! I swear my friends hate me driving them places because it's all I play! Big faves:
Dolly (the leg that is) Parton
Randy Travis
Red Sovine
Dixie Chicks
Carrie Underwood (though it's more poppy, but still brilliant!)
Patty Griffin (bit country folk)
Faith Hill
Leann Rimes (mostly the early stuff!)
Shania
Johnny Cash (and some of June Carter's really early stuff)
Reba McEntire

ARGH! It's exciting just typing it!
But because we live over here in Britain we never get to see any of them! GRRR!

Buddy Miller worry to much (single).
I also love country music.
And I saw Buddy Miller play live in a club in Bristol a few years back.
Great night!

Yep I like country too, or pop with a strong country sound. In particular, Lonestar, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Heartland, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Shania Twain etc. As well as DOLLY of course!!

Johnny Cash at San Quentin and Folsom Prison are absolutely amazing live records.
Absolutely. I listen to them so much. With most live records the narrative becomes boring after a while. But with Cash that does not happen.
