No I dont think you can. You cant express emotions properly on the internet, and misunderstandings are so so common, that probably half the things people say to eachother arent meant exactly in the way they come across. You cant properly know someone until you've spent time with them in person, getting to know the little things like how they talk, silly little habits they have etc. I think you can care for someone, but love's a strong word and I certainly wouldnt use it for someone Id never actually met.

You can fall in love with someone you know solely online.

Of course, the person you fall in love with may not be the person they really are.

I concur with this here post. Online people and their real-life counterparts can be very different indeed.

I'm not sure that the OP means "can you meet someone online and then fall in love with them". Christ, my current boyfriend I met online, the one before that I met online, and the one before that I met online. And yes, I do love my boyfriend. Maybe not the other two though.

I think the OP actually means "can you love someone who you only know from the internet", implying that you have never met in real life.

Nope, I meant what I meant. Can you love someone you met off the internet. From MSN conversatons > Meet-ups. It's more with can LOVE spawn from the Internet.

No, I think relationships based entirely on the internet are based on fantasy. Nothing wrong with finding someone compatible on the Internet (e.g. a dating site) and then continuing the relationship in person though.

Of course it is, anybody who says "no" hasn't read the question properly.

It's the same as asking "Can you love someone you met at school?" or "Can you love someone you met at a bar?" If you love someone, you love them, what does where you met them have to do with it? If you love someone you met at Tesco, then your love for them wouldn't be any different if you happened to have met that person on the internet instead.

I think you need to think a little harder about the question.

Please, explain to me how the place of initial meeting affects whether you can love a person, then?

Well yes, clearly, otherwise there wouldn't be squillions of couples doing it, including a large number of people from TSR, myself included (although that was sort of an accident). My relationship is no less real or intense because we first got to know each other - though didn't in any way get together - on the internet.

But I don't think you can fall in love with someone without meeting them. Or at least, as Schmokie says, the person you fall in love with may well not be the actual person on the other computer screen.

I agree. Personas on the internet can be far from what the person is like in real life.

well i post wot i posted last time this topic came up:

    Internet relationships are not real
Your heart people steal but identities conceal
So here’s a tale of warning for girls and boys
Laptop computers can be dangerous toys

DARYL47: In the chat room, I inspect. Who’s here tonight? ASL check
CarolBabe69: I’m 20/f from the UK. Send me an IM and I’ll make your day
DARYL47: I’m 22 and my name is Daryl
CarolBabe69: Nice to meet you Daryl my name is Carol
DARYL47: What do you like Carol?
CarolBabe69: I like to go to shows. I collect comic books and vintage clothes
    What do you like?
DARYL47: I like to skate. I play rock guitar, but I’m not that great
I like to go on dates and I like to stay up late
I live in San Francisco and hangin' on the Haight
CarolBabe69: Do you like the Golden Gate?
    DARYL47: I did when I was eight
CarolBabe69: Maybe I can come and visit?
    DARYL47: Maybe you should wait
See I’m really forty-seven, I have kids and a wife
I weight 300 pounds and I hate my life
    CarolBabe69: Are you serious?
    DARYL47: Yes
    CarolBabe69: Well, I’ve got a secret too. I’m not 20 years old, I’m really 32
I only have one leg and I like to sniff glue
DARYL47: You lied to me Carol
CarolBabe69: Well, you lied to me too

    CHORUS
It’s not normal to have an Internet girlfriend.
    Online relationships are just pretend
Unplug your heart, upgrade your system.
    Get, get off the Internet

Bob went on MySpace for hours a day.
Talking to girls from Moscow to LA
But people can surprise you from behind a screen
Listen to this verse and you’ll see what I mean

SueChick1990: Hi, I’m Susie, I like your profile
I checked out your pics and I like your style
BOBSTER MAN: Sounds good Susie, I’ll be your friend
We can message each other again and again
SueChick1990: Comment on my pics and post on my page
Join my groups and guess my age!
BOBSTER MAN: You must be 18, how could you not?
You can’t be in high school you’re just too hot
SueChick1990: Let me send you pics for your personal collection
I hope they inspire you and give you a smile
Susie sent Bob pics that were borderline obscene
The cops showed up at his door – she was only 16

    REPEAT CHORUS

If you don’t believe us here’s a final story
About a boy named Marcus and his online girlfriend Lorie
Behind the monitor, truth is hidden from your eyes
Marcus didn’t know but he was in for a surprise

MARCUSP: We’ve been dating for a while but let’s cut to the chase
I don’t know what you look like, and I want to see your face
Laurie69: But what does it matter? You know who I am inside
MARCUSP: What if you’re not a woman and this whole time you lied?
Laurie69: You got me there, I’m not really a female
I’m a guy who pretends to be a girl through email
MARCUS: So this is why it’s bad to meet women online
Living life behind the screen is a total waste of time!

    ch-ch-ch-ch-check
    online relationships
    internet girrrrrrlllll
    internet relationship
    fresh
    MC lars
    fr-fr-fresh fresh

    REPEAT CHORUS(2 times)

    Online relationships(repeat 8 times)

    Mc lars knows best

ps. I think interent relationships r stupid if u r neva going to meet but declare your undying love for them *rolls eyes some ppl need to get a life
