It's all about enjoying your youth. Don't worry about giving up drink until you end up like Paul Gasgoine.

EDIT: ok maybe don't wait that long.

    dont stop,
    but decrease gradually,
drink 2 less pints than you usually do, or just dont drink any shots etc etc and slowly decrease

Hey I know how you feel, I was in the same situation a while ago, I kind of have that habit of going out an saying "I'm not drinking tonight at all". Then someone will offer me 1 drink, few hours later I've spent all my money getting pointlessly drunk for no reason.

It's easy for people to say drink in moderation but for some people it seems kind of impossible. The only way I can avoid it is just not going to the party...the only improvement I've made is going around mates house to play games or whatever, I actually have the willpower not to try convincing everyone we should all get wasted.

But still, at parties I just can't I don't see the point, I'll drink till I collapse or my wallet is empty, end off...Or I meet a decent girl. I haven't gone to a party sober in the whole of my life!! That's scary!

You could try not bringing out any money and telling everyone not to give you any drink to get used to it kind of. Tell everyone how you've given up drinking and brag about it, how your health will be good etc. Then if you do decide to drink you'll look like an idiot.

EDIT: Just re-read peoples comments...reducing the amount you drink has like a 2% chance of working. Give it up for a month or something without a single drop and you'll be able to appreciate a single drink then. Reducing the amount you drink doesn't work if you like to get wasted.

What's the point of parties if you don't get wasted. I'm being completely serious.

To socialise with people I guess.

I hate it when you go out with people and their all like "Yeee let's get really drunk", then they spend about an hour drinking 1 drink. It well pisses me off...

I'm not sure why people are telling you to quit drinking. I would say just to try and take a bit more control in future. Maybe drink a bit less or slower...don't get in to a state where you think "must get drunk and fast".

I admit that I can't enjoy clubs sober, mainly because I hate the music, but I don't need to be off my face. A few drinks is fine. I think you need to realise that you don't need to be, or are necessarily expected to be, off your face at every party.

I got to the point you're at after two parties - I got incredibly drunk at the first one without consequence (apart from crying at 2 am in the morning because I thought my friend was going to die) and at the second I threw up rather violently, still can't remember how much I'd had (can remember everything about both parties though).

My policy is to limit myself to one drink - After that, I switch to J2Os or coke. I have a friend who can get blind drunk just by inhaling the vapours (the one I cried about at the first party :p: ) but still carries on drinking. You have to keep an eye on her because after a point she just makes a beeline for any alcohol she can find and if you're not careful she will drink herself into a sorry state.

Unless you are an extreme light weight I don't see the point in only having one drink. Why not just drink soft drinks from the start?

Drinking at parties is fun. Not drinking at parties isn't.

The best course is to drink a bit, but not so much you're totally out of it and don't remember anything.

Mainly it's because I like the taste of Blue WKDs but also because I drink quite slowly, by the time I start on the J2Os people think I've already had a couple of WKDs or are too blotto to care.

ETA - Opps, anon didn't work. Ah well :p:

It's very simple.... you go to parties, you get wasted. That's how it works. End of.

It depends on how drunk you get. Some people think drunk as in falling over and forgetting a few things, then others think of it as drinking till they need their stomach pumped at a hospital.

I've been in a few serious situations and seen a few too. A funny one is someone I knew had been drinking all day long, then later the night everyone started knocking back shots of whiskey an random drinks from the bar. He ended up puking loads then dry heaving which ruptured his bowls, lol. He ended up needed an ambulance an left the place pretty messy...

I don't know if the hospital washed his jeans or anything though, lol!

No, I just don't need alcohol to be a fun and happy person. I prefer remembering my nights out anyway :p:

More than one drink =/= getting parenthetically drunk

It's my choice though, my decision is to have only one drink when I go out. I'm happy with it like this, like I said I don't need alcohol to have fun, I don't find it makes a night more enjoyable. Each to their own, eh?

To be honest, it's not about remembering nights out. More often than not, if you can't remember much about a night out, it's been a fecking great night out
