I use it more than 'hello', then just go with whatever response the person I'm speaking with gives.

YES. ARGHH.

Cos how are you supposed to reply?

"Yeah, i'm good...you..?" or just "hi.."

I tend to just go.. "Yeah..you?" but then you haven't even said hello to the person! It's like going up to someone and saying, "How are you?" rather than hi!

I hate this aswell. I normally just say 'Hey' or 'Hi' and sometimes 'Yea, alright?'

I think it depends on how its used, if some one says 'You Alright...' then they are asking how you are, but if they just say 'Alright..' then its like saying hello/hi. Thats how I look at it.

I normally say 'hey' followed by a question of choice 'you ok?' or 'how you been?' lol...

Or, to a group of my friends I'll say "Hey, orite" pronounced like that too, 'alright' sounds to slow, sluggish and formal for regular friends...

I say it as a sort of "hi, how are you" sort of greeting.

Unfortunately it's one of those words that brings out the Bristolian in me, so it sounds more like "Orriyyyt?"

It's pretty much the standard way of greeting someone around here, although we say "or-8".
I use it about a million times a day.

It's just another awful, *******-English word I despise. "Mate" is much worse though...
