I've yet to see a bass player I know play a decent wobble... or even want to try. What is it with bass players and "jazz-fusion" anyway? It's a horrible genre of boring posers.

As has been said over and over already, RHCP and RATM have some amazing basslines. Higher ground and Take the power back are my respective favourites.

Mustang Sally is a crappy song but a classic bassline, ideal for learning basic syncopation.

Most, if not all, Hot Water Music songs.
Primus for certain.
Tom Jenkinson has some great basslines in his songs, too (Squarepusher, his electronic alias)

Hooky is the best melodic bassist ever. His New Order output is the ****ing dogs *******s the way he extracts that rich drone from a bass is really unique.
So very much agreed...

I'm looking for some cool bass riffs to learn, no matter the style of music as long as it's good

So, what bassline do you consider to be the greatest?
Dr Dre, Nuthin but a g thang.

I can't pick out a greatest but I can tell you some bass lines I love playing I'm gonna list some more jazzy/funky tunes as presumably the pop/rock material has been covered already.

Sing, Sing, Sing - big band/swing
Family guy theme - big band (not the TV version)
Play that Funky Music White Boy - funky/Wild Cherry (but has been covered lots)
What is Hip - funk/Tower of Power
