The Russell Group have historically been very aggressive in lobbying for higher fees, and will conform to type when the fees cap is reviewed in 2009. It's a fairly grim situation and the behaviour of this cartel is key to the establishment of free market conditions in a non profit sector. The UK higher education market should not, in my view, aim for a closer alignment in theory and in practice to the US higher education market.

In my experience, the media are the group third most clueless about higher education. The second most clueless group are the House of Commons and the most clueless group are the NUS.
