The German country side near the French border :woo: , in a tabacco growing region none the less. you couldn't even go for a coffee in a cafe without coming out coughing and eyes watering.

apparently they have introduced some kind of semi smoking ban now, but it's had no effect, as they tried to introduce one only to please some people in Berlin, but really didn't want to bring one it. So it's ignored and the rules around when and where you can't smoke would make the ban pointless even if people obayed it.

but i had fun back at home, going out for the first time ever in the neighbouring state on the other side of the river, where they have a proper smoking ban .

In London i hardly noticed the difference with the smoking ban to be honest. It was amazingly smoke free compared to where i was from anyway!
Seriously ur post was so boring i stopped reading it after the first few words.

    Serioulsy some people.

You're going to split up with her just because you don't like her smoking? Perhaps you're doing her a favour by ending it.
Yeh OP is totally unreasonable.. it's not like smoking increases your risk of cancer or anything.

Awesome thanks for pos rep. 300 + points

    I should THINK SO TOO
I was smoking when I met him in a nightclub and he didnt object to it though. He turned out to be a no good cheating bum anyway and the relationship only lasted 8 weeks before I dumped him.

As does about a million other things (including fried breakfasts according to the papers yesterday  ) so would you find unacceptable to date a slightly over-weight girl, or someone who liked the odd drink?

Seen as you've only been out with her twice, i'd just tell her that you don't like smoking.

An overweight person or a drinker isn't harming my health.

happened to me a few times Oh, they don't mean to, they just don't pay attention where they wave their arms and hands and forget they are holding a cigartte.

This is alot easier than it sounds. I mean, I've done it to my dog in the front garden before, so... in a club or pub I imagine it could easily be a common occurance.

I honestly can't be arsed reading that entire post (no offence, I'm just trying to multi-task :p:) but I'm not a smoker and I don't like smoking either. My friend's dad died of lung cancer and he didn't stop smoking once he was diagnosed. I don't like smoking and I'd never do it myself but like I said, it's all about weighing it up. If someone is practically perfect (obviously there's no such thing as perfection but you get what I mean), to me it IS trivial to break up with them over a dirty habit, no matter how much I don't like it myself.

I'd always say talk to them about it and tell them you don't like it and in the scenario the OP described, I don't think it's much of a big deal as it doesn't sound like they're in a great relationship or anything anyway. But if they were, I wouldn't advise breaking up with someone over it, but that's just me
ah, i tend to write long posts as i'm a very quick typer and just write what i'm thinking.

i think of course some people will be perfect except for one annoying habit, but where do you draw the line?
he's perfect, but he's an alcoholic...
he's perfect, but he's never washes...
    he's perfect, but he's a porn star...

everyone will have different annoying habits they just won't go near. A friend of mine married an alcoholic. I wouldn't go there... but he was perfect otherwise! If you don't see smoking as trivial, that is good for you, but for some people it just isn't. And where the limit is and what annoying habits we can live with and which we can't is different for everyone. My friend might think I was stupid for not wanting to go out with the perfect man, just because he's been an alcoholic for the past 10 years... I disagree. Some habits you don't have to put up with.

it's only happened to me once in London in a crowded bar, there are just less smokers in the UK I think. in Germany there are far more. I think it's all statistics and how careful someone is. When everyone in a packed bar is smoking, or just in a very packed common room, it's sadly as common as someone accidentally hitting someone else with their hand. It happens. It's an accident and I always forgave my friends quickly, but that doesn't mean I enjoyed the experience or the clothes with burn marks. :p:

Being an alcoholic is totally different and I think it makes for a very poor comparison. I'm not saying it SHOULD be like this but the fact of the matter is, smoking is widely accepted by society as something "normal" or "not a big deal" (regardless of what you and I both think!) Being an alcoholic is totally different.

I do agree however it's very difficult to draw the line, which is why I'd be crap in a relationship because I'd either let the person do what they want and annoy me to hell and back, or not at all :p:

You're right, some habits you don't have to put up with. It's subjective and it always will be. The way I see it, the OP isn't (as I said already) in a serious relationship anyway, so it isn't a big deal if he ends it or not.

I think a good example would be if you're with somone, say, married to them, for twenty years and they suddenly start smoking. You don't like that, but would you stop right there and ask for a divorce? I very much doubt it. You'd talk to the person first and try to come to some sort of compromise. At least, I'd put a bet on it that the majority of people would do :P

And ditto the point about "if you don't think smoking is trivial, good for you".

Yeah it happens. I have few friends who regularly smoke but when they've had a drink or two it's a different story. I've been burnt by cigarette ash when they have waved their arms and hands about lol.

    Hey all,

I have been out twice now with this girl.

She is pretty nice, only problem is she is a smoker and i really cant deal with it. It makes my eyes sore and throat hurt.

Is there an easy way to say i dont want to see her anymore?

P.S. We had sex and i dont want her to think i just wanted sex then quit.
Oh the melodrama.. man-up damn it!

for me, if I see a really pretty girl and think she's really pretty ... and then she pulls out a smoke ... I instantly think she's the least attractive person. Same with guys. My boyfriend has said explicitly that no matter how much he liked me, if I smoked, we wouldn't have a chance
