Usually when Im like that I just lie down and sleep it off if I can. If not I go for a walk cos exercise helps it. I usually cant eat anything when its very sore, which means I cant really take tablets for it. I find the best cure is actually alcohol but thats not really a method to be used regularly I suppose, but if you're already planning to have a night out, down some vodka, you'll soon stop feeling the pain

Im glad I only get 1 out of 5 days each month where its that bad.

chocolate, hot drinks, hot bath, going for a walk or mild exercise you wont feel like it but it does help, i find stretching helps, raspberry tea helps my sister, certain positions help, as does comfort food, hope this helps

apparently orgasms help, so doing 'that' before you go to sleep might take them away long enough.

Lie down with your feet higher than your head.. and no, I don't mean some sort of weird yoga/kama sutra position.. I suppose that would be quite messy, haha..
But if you lie down with your feet resting on top of a couple of pillows, it's actually quite soothing.. a tip from my mum, and mummies know best!
Also recommend drinking red wine.. or for some people, I heard gin works in the same way.. if you're anything like me then a glass should be enough to put you to sleep and you'll be a-ok once you've rested up

i did try exercise/stretching etc, but when exercising in my ridiculously tiny bedroom the lure of the bed was just too much!

Hot water bottle, hot bath, Lil-lets heat patches. Try lying on your front that sometimes helped me. But seriously wrap yourself up in warm blanket with a hot water bottle and plenty of chocolate and watch you favourite movie.

Anything with medium to strong ginger in it. Chocolate covered crystallised ginger root is always a favourite of mine - the chocolate is an added bonus.

Hot water bottle or those heat pad things that you stick on your tummy
Could also try having a nice warm bath, that sometimes helps me.

If I'm outside I usually take out the pain by biting my hand very hard. Seems to work though.

I'd vote sleep. You're not in pain when you're asleep.

(I get really bad pains as I have a coil...so I tend to sleep solidly for about 48 hrs, generally by dosing myself on either Nytol, codeine, or a combination of the two.)

Other remedies I would suggest have all been mentioned above- chocolate and/or Ben and Jerry's, hot water bottle... there is some evidence to suggest sex works as a natural painkiller- but whether that is right for you is up to you and your boyfriend (or hired male escort) to decide.

my sister's in the bath (god i'll kill her one of these days)!!

hot water bottles are always good, but i find once i pick it up i can't put it down, so short of walking round with a hot water bottle for 5 days.....

thanks for all the ideas so far
Venting your frustration might distract you from the pain...

I agree with the suggestions of nice warm things. Snuggley clothes seem to make me feel generally better as well.

Exercise always works best for me. When I was 13ish I would be at school and the cramps would get so bad that I would get sent home for a few days each month because the pain would make me i'll. But then my PE coach told me that exercise is the best way and it honestly does help.

I personally find pilates the best way to go, it stretches out the muscles and its really soothing, plus its an amazing work out lol. Only problem with pilates was me getting used to the mild pain in my joints (I have bad problems with my ankles and knees) but mild pain in comparison to major pain is a major yes please lol x
