Why are surgical theatres kept at low temp watch

    Yahuh. The new legislation is that any patient whos on the bed for anything more than 30 min should have a Bairhugger.

    Ideal theatre temp is 22 by the way. Thats what the theatre thermometer says anyway.

    The reason why they used to induse hypothermia in the early days of cardiac surgery was that they didn't have cardiopulmonary bypass. Keeping the patient cool was a way of minimasing ischemic demage to the brain and other vital organs while the circulation was stopped.

    Similar to the way it's used post-arrest and in some other low-output states now.
