A-levels are more important A good set of GCSE's are required though....

I got 6 B's and I got a place to do Law (at Liverpool) and 2 medical school interviews (UEA and Soton) - different application cycles obviously =].

I have to say, yes. The top 10 universities in the country only take the elite. The elite don't do Bs.

...or how to use proper spelling and grammar in general.

I only have one good GCSE and three A Levels and I got into Uni...although I don't go to a "top" university. But a Degree is a Degree.

What subject was the B in? If it's not related to the subject you wish to puruse at degree level then it should'nt affect you too much.

However if your aiming for Medicine, they score the application on GCSEs, and more A*/As the greater the chances of a application succeeding. Similarly for Law or any other top 5 dept for your chosen subject it may affect you. You have your AS-Levels to impress them too, so don't worry too much.
