You can get your provisional when you are fifteen. I did as I needed it for the moped CBT test which I passed three days after my sixteenth birthday. Unfortunately, at all the bars and clubs they are always asking for secondary ID to prove the licence is actually mine as my face has changed so much!

You can apply for a provisional 3 months before you are 16.

You cannot sit a car theory at 16, but you can sit a motorbike theory at 16.

Got mine in september last year (my birthday is in january), costed £50

But I am sure that you can get one as soon as you hit 16, because the license for a moped is the same as the one for a car / motorbike.

Personally I don't think that children should be allowed outside without a responsible adult until they're at least 24-25. So, increasing the driving age to 25 would make sense, except for cases where a child is required as a designated driver when mum or dad want to go out and get hammered...

Source...?

This gets said so often, yet when I'm sure when I looked recently, it says there are no plans to raise the limit.

Have a read...

Just thought I'd clear that up.

As others have said, you can apply for your provisional up to 3 months before your 17th birthday, but it is not valid until you are 17. You cannot take your theory test until your provisional is valid.

(1) No, they're not
(2) They're also not raising the number of theory questions to 100, before that rumour turns up

Does one ride a moped at 16 purely on a CBT?

How does one get a cat T license pre 17 then? (my bad, cat F)

So say I passed my test just before they changed it (if they do change it), would I be okay (being under 21)?

I remember when this rumour went around 2 years ago at my school, then the next year it happened again, obviously hasn't happened this year as people are turning 17 and taking their lessons and tests!

It isn't going up. The government make way too much money on provisional licences and speeding tickets of those under 21! haha

Are they?
If this is true, I'm doing driving lessons for nothing.
It only counts for those after a certain birthdate, if your already 17 it wouldnt count. but seriously they have been talking about this for yeaarrrs!
put it like this, if they were going to decide to do this *which they havent for def. yet* it would take about a year to implement so i wouldnt worry!
