for economics, i did the oh so relevant work experience of computer game testing for a computer game developers. However, whilst i did it as a joke, they gave me a summer job last year and for this summer. Basically, 7 weeks, 40 hours a week, £8 an hour, to play the latest computer games. its not bad....

I was a teaching assistant at a primary school. It seemed like the easiest job in the world, a bit boring though. It seemed like the assistant spent all her time playing with the kids and the teacher was always just doing paperwork and marking stuff.

I was really into languages and was doing german and spanish for gcse so went to a language school for 2 weeks, was really cool, just had to walk around taking pictures to put up on the walls, talk to the students to get them practising and organise fun events - did a bbq on the beach and played games and stuff really enjoyed it.

I did mine at Sheffield Uni in the Mechanical Engineering Department - thought it would be dead boring but actually got a go on the flight simulator! Ate lunch in a grave yard, got to buy discount sandwiches at the Union - fun 2 weeks!

As for the work, that was producing a written report on the accuracy and reliability of an experiment on photoelasticity for 1st year undergraduates - having only just done GCSE physics, to describe it as a challenge is an understatement.

Worked in a Cattery.

Incidently, if you are talented in maths, science or anything like that, or like engineering, and if you are looking at taking a year out then the "Year in Industry" is quite good.

The website is a bit old but it gives the general idea.

(Original post by It'sLauren.)
I did a placement at a care home for the elderly.

I hated it, someone passed away in my first week, I fainted, I bathed a naked old lady. We're not supposed to take part in hygiene stuff, but this man called me in, gave me a flannel and walked off. I should have said something, I know, but Jesus, longest two weeks of my life so far, and I only worked 9 til 2, with two breaks.

What did everyone else do? Any interesting stories?

x

I worked in Clarks :lolwut: (the shoe shop).
