So if you're writing a cover letter within an application form and you can't find who to address it to, what is the best thing to do ? Write "Dear Sir or Madam" or find out who the Recruitment Manager is and address it to them?

I've found something online where recruitment manager talks about TC interviews and what the firm looks for etc but it doesn't confirm this anywhere.

Thank you so much for getting back to me were there any unusual competency qs that you had not previously considered or were they straight forward? with regards to the commercial awareness qs were the questions very complex or more open? its great that they made you feel at ease! did they ask any think specifically legal as i am non law :/ also sorry for the questions! but did they say when you will hear back? good luck!
Nothing out of the blue for competency! All of the questions were asking about skills you'd expect them to be looking for.

And commercial question wasn't anything to specific like 'explain about x type of law' it was more just how aware you were of what's going on in the business world and how you could link that back to the firm. I use a lot of stuff on The Gateway Online and I find that super helpful for prepping for commercial awareness parts of interviews! (you have to sign up but it's free and they don't spam you).

And I should hear back by the end of next week - quite a while eeek! I hope yours goes well! Let me know

Often it'll say who to address it to in the FAQs, but otherwise it's probably a good idea to address it to the head of recruitment/graduate recruitment.

Thanks for the reply It doesn't say anything under FAQs so I was just going to address it "Dear (their name), Recruitment Manager". I wonder if you address it to head of HR (the firm doesn't have a separate grad recruitment) and it's the wrong person whether it would affect my application at all

Have you looked at law careers.net? On their profile of each firm they usually say who to address it to. I wrote the wrong name on one of my applications and still got shortlisted to interview stage so they can't mind that much!

Thank you, your advice is much appreciated! Did they ask you about specific business issues or were the questions more open so that you could choose which topics to talk about? I will definitely sign up to The Gateway Online- Thank you!

Hopefully they will get back to you sooner, it seems like it went well anyhow. I will keep you updated on mine

There was a lot of flexibility which was nice as it meant you got to show that you could think on your feet and stuff

Ah thanks, I had a look on lawcareers.net and it just says recruitment team so I went with the Recruitment Manager since there was a short article with them talking about the graduate recruitment process and what they look for, so they must have something to do with it?

But it is reassuring that it might not necessarily hinder my application at all
