I've seen small groups of applicants getting tours every now and then, so it's definitely worth emailing and seeing if you can get a tour.

Both options are great choices, you'll be fine at either.
I'll definitely email and try to get on one. It always helps to get a feel for the place in person.

It would've been easier if I was rejected from one of them! But you're right, it probably won't be too different wherever I end up.

    Cheers

Ranking is largely irrelevant in engineering

Exactly my point. Ranking is indeed important. That is why a degree from Imerial or Cambridge is Considered better than one from Sheffield or York.

To answer both you and the guy who quoted you. Obviously a degree from imperial/Cambridge will be a huge boost but it isn't as if in engineering it matters as much.

As long as you go to RG or a good non RG (eg bath) then you're fine. You'll see that by looking at grad prospects from each university, they're all high.

It becomes more relevant when you move out of the engineering job sector.

    Got my offer yesterday. A*AA

Not taking it. They pissed us about too much with the extra statement and long delays in making offers, when most other unis had already sorted out their act. Also the online booking of applicants day place was shoddy.
