Economics applicant thread UCAS 2014

I'm on my third draft at the moment but I'll be able to talk about meaningful things in it once next week is over because I'll have finished my work experience at JP Morgan in Bournemouth. Also, as I'm pretty much alone this week (without parents and staying at a B&B by myself), I'll likely be able to make some good progress on my wider reading.

My friend did the work experience thingy there a couple weeks back, apparently theres lots of talks, team building and the best part is the catering

Reading through the Economics applicant thread for 2013 entry is making me so nervous for results day!!!
If I don't get AAAAA then I'm going to have to have a serious think about my choices!!

5A's? I'm sure you won't need all them at an A grade, but if you do congrats.

What are your choices, out of curiosity?

Anyone can give me a few pointers on how to show interest of a specific article in the economist?
I tried something like 'I also enjoy reading the economist, specifically the GB section which shows the development the domestic economy is taking to end its bust phase' But i think it sounds a bit wishy washy

My subjects are Maths, Further maths, Physics, Economics and General studies however I'm now dropping general studies and doing an EPQ.

The only thing is my GCSEs are far below average for economics (1A*, 5As, 5Bs, 1C) so I really need to make up for them in other parts of my application to stand a chance at decent universities :/

I guess I'm doing the exact same. With my school, general studies was hated from day one (by everyone) so I never bothered with it. It's good that it's not looked at.

But which Universities are you looking at? (If you don't mind me asking)

Yeah both general studies and critical thinking are hated at my school too.

I'm looking at Bristol, Nottingham, Bath, York and Surrey. Staying well away from LSE and Warwick with my poor GCSEs. However my choices almost 100% depend upon my AS results, if I do achieve all As then I may switch Surrey for UCL as a long shot because I'd like to at least try, even if my chances are low from my GCSEs.

How about you?

Slightly scary but once again exactly the same, except for Surrey I'm looking at UCL.
If I do extremely well in AS, then I'm going to aim higher for Warwick/Cambridge but I've got a similar problem that my GCSE's aren't good enough for Warwick. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that I got 5A* 4A 1B, but the admissions tutor at Warwick said mine are below the usual offer holder.

I do maths, further maths, chemistry, physics and economics, but dropping physics for A2 and doing an EPQ now. Did you do the C3 exam? I'm so annoyed it might affect my application.
