I can as well be hanged as tell the manner of it. It
was mere foolery. I did not mark it. I saw Mark
    Antony offer him a crown
(yet ’twas not a crown neither, ’twas one of these coronets) and, as I told
you, he put it by once—but, for all that, to my
thinking, he would fain have had it. Then he offered
it to him again, then he put it by again—but, to my
thinking, he was very loath to lay his fingers off it.
And then he offered it the third time. He put it the
third time by. And still, as he refused it, the
rabblement hooted and clapped their chapped
hands and threw up their sweaty night-caps and
uttered such a deal of stinking breath because
Caesar refused the crown that it had almost choked
Caesar—for he swooned and fell down at it. And for
mine own part, I durst not laugh for fear of opening
my lips and receiving the bad air.

Alternatively, do you feel the need to resign from party leadership due to the breakdown of the government you led?

I doubt Cameron would have stepped down if Clegg rebelled, he simply would've devoured the fool in the next election.

But had he then lost a VoNC he would have been forced out

    FPTP vs PR I'm afraid.
And besides the proposers of that VoNC couldn't even be bothered to put a reason, it was just some opportunism which is fair enough but I don't feel responsible for it. Indeed those decisions that lead us to this state where made democratically within the party (occasionally against my own preference) and whilst I did consider assuming responsibility I couldn't bear to legitimise the Liberals' decision - they were, in my opinion, the weak link. And showed incredibly bad form in surprising us with the resignation then backing an immediate VoNC. Of course if my party decide they don't want me I'll step down without complaint. But there's no doubt Labour has been a more successful government alone that it ever seemed likely to be with the Liberals.

If we'd have waited a week or two the result would have been the same

Did I suggest it wouldn't be?
Rather I stated what should be abundantly obvious, that this government was/is not incapable of governing. We should have been given the chance to do so.

And of course Labour will seek to continue to govern in a new coalition if possible, as we do believe the ideas we brought forward at the last election are those ideas which enjoy majority support.

How likely is a coalition with the Greens?

Firstly the bold makes no sense.

Second, Ray isn't a socalist but a social democrat, if you wanted to be in a socalist party you could join the socalist party...

We introduced leadership term limits for about a fortnight before repealing them again.

    Unfortunately I'm mortal.

I'll have you know I 2nded the term limits motion and voted for it originally and against the subsequent appeal. I have no intention of serving indefinitely - I simply will not resign because of the Liberals betraying us.

I thought that was the norm. We never had them until LP introduced it. I certainly never limited or affirmed myself, if people wanted me gone they had the option of a VoNC.

Yes, should he so wish, and retain the confidence of the party.

why was it even allowed to be repealed after 2 weeks? It seems kinda stupid

We don't have one in the greens but all you have to do is look at the loonies to see why they can help
