[4:2] O ye people! fear your Lord, Who created you from a single soul and created therefrom its mate, and from them twain spread many men and women; and fear Allah, in Whose name you appeal to one another, and fear Him particularly respecting ties of relationship. Verily, Allah watches over you.

There was a time when Islamic Scholarship was a leading torch bearer of knowledge and a shining example to the world where the Scholars of this Ummah had mastered both Islamic knowledge and secular sciences producing some of the greatest minds and free-thinkers in human history that transformed societies and nations! People from all over the globe would look towards the Muslim world for guidance & progress in both religious and secular knowledge. Muslim civilizations flourished when the entire Ummah benefited from the diversity of the great works of our Scholars, and adapting & embracing foreign influences within the confines of the Sharia.

Today however the Ummah excels in secular sciences, we have Muslims leading in the field of medicine and engineering, but only a handful of open-minded Scholars that specialise both in Islamic knowledge and secular sciences. The narrow-mindedness of 'sectarianism' and 'appeal to authority' who may not be qualified to give verdicts in secular and foreign issues has left many to develop a strict-conservative Islam that hinders the very heritage & principles of our faith.

Then there are those who profess themselves as Muslims (which by definition means to submit to the Will of Allah), yet their liberal views leave everything to their intellects and whatever is the norm of the society becomes their religion even if it goes against the very basic teachings of Islam.

How can the Ummah ever revive the great legacy of the past and return back to the conservative yet liberal heritage of our Scholars?

Join Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in this unique & inspiring talk as he performs 'bloodless brain surgery' of the Muslim mind unlocking our great legacy of a free-thinking Ummah through the lens of orthodox Islam.

An exhilarating talk not to me missed!!

Jazak Allah Khayran for sharing such a video
I advise all to watch it - I just finished watching it

Obey Allah and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and do not quarrel among yourselves lest you lose heart and your momentum disappear. And be steadfast. Allah is with the steadfast. (8:46)

And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers. (51:55)

SubhanAllah: On the authority of Masruq, who said:We asked Abdullah (i.e. Ibn Masud) about this verse: And do not regard those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead, rather are they alive with their Lord, being provided for (Quran Chapter 3 Verse 169). He said: We asked about that and the Prophet (pbuh) said: Their souls are in the insides of green birds having lanterns suspended from the Throne, roaming freely in Paradise where they please, then taking shelter in those lanterns. So their Lord cast a glance at them (1) and said: Do you wish for anything? They said: What shall we wish for when we roam freely in Paradise where we please? And thus did He do to them three times. When they say that they would not be spared from being asked [again], they said: O Lord, we would like for You to put back our souls into our bodies so that we might fight for Your sake once again. And when He saw that they were not in need of anything they were let be. (1) i.e. at those who had been killed in the cause of Allah. It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah)

Ameen to all the duas. SubhanAllah our soc is simply the best. Proof that Islam is an amazing religion and Muslims are peaceful. True Muslins insha'Allah. We spend our time benefiting each other, helping each other, making duas for one another and occasionally praising one another. Alhamdulilah. The fights, well there's a always a lesson to be learnt from a mistake. No hatred, envy or jealousy insha'Allah. Just awesomeness. Hope it stays this way.

    For now, Asalam alaikum WaRahmatullah.

And themorninglight could you tell us something interesting about Imam Al-Jawzi or Imam Ibn Rajab please
    Gladly!

Yesterday I was reading the introduction to "Disciplining the Soul" by Ibn al Jawzi which is what inspired the question I asked. What struck me is how devoted the Imam was to Islam from such a young age - he began giving sermons when he had barely reached the age of puberty, as a child he would not socialise or play with others and only left his house to go and pray at the masjid. He wrote his first book when he was 13! Serious dedication subhanAllah, and of course it paid off as he grew up to become one of the most famous scholars of his time, with many many famous students such as Ibn Qudamah al Maqdisi (rahimahullah)

For Imam Ibn Rajab, he was also raised by a very knowledgable family. An interesting thing to know is that he was nicknamed Ibn Rajab after his grandfather who was born in the month of Rajab. He was also a great Hanbali scholar and very much attached to the writings of Ibn Taymiyyah, as he was a student of Ibn Qayyim (the famous student of Ibn Taymiyyah).

Another interesting fact is that not only do these 2 great scholars share a kunya and a madhab, they were also born in the same city (Baghdad) in Iraq and they both passed away in the blessed month of Ramadan. May Allah have mercy on them both.
