It's more to do with Everton's behaviour last season. Their fanbase were so smug that they'd got rid of him and were adamant that Martinez was a top manager, all the talk was of how he'd made all the players better and that Moyes was holding them back.

I like Everton as a club, but after that it's hard to have any sympathy.
Yeah, a few Toffees I knew were saying how Moyes was holding them back and now they got Martinez they would be top five.

Bet they're wishing they kept Moyes now eh?
At least he'd bring a Sociedad style of play :pierre:

Rumblings of discontent in the Goodison Park dressing room.

That said, you DID beat Man City a couple of years back when Yaya Toure went on AFCON duty. You've won three of your last four at Goodison against them, and while I can't see it happening, stranger things have happened.

Great result for you today - and Besic is a steal at £4m, by the way.

Surprised West Ham aren't being more positive. They won't get CL football, and a cup run would bring some much-needed silverware to Upton Park and will further Big Sam's bid to manage England.

Didn't deserve that at the end. Pleased with performance after going down to 10. Ref was awful.

Feel sorry for those Everton fans that traveled all the way down.

Buying Lukaku was the most anti-Everton move I've seen in a long time. Everton have always sold to spend and then used the money well to continue to boost the squad as a whole.

Has Lukaku looked like a 28mil signing? Esp when you consider how much of your transfer budget it ate up? A very eggs in one basket approach which may or may not work in the longer term.

Why didn't Baines take the penalty?

Mirallas basically snatched the ball and took it, then goes and misses it. He got subbed off at half time, doesn't seem to be much team spirit in the Everton team.

It was strange, although I'm not complaining.

That game won't be winning any awards for entertainment.
