Hmm, okay. Sounds really confusing. Do they not know till the end of the season, or is it just not made clear to us plebs?
I'll probably know March-April time, but it normally is at the end of the season, I only found out that three teams got promoted and one team got relegated at the end of last season and was all confusing across all four divisions, not just those two divisions mentioned.

Fair enough, I suppose it's to do with the constant creation/demise of non-league teams and so on. Adds an element of intrigue you don't find in the Championship!

Yeah, it does :p:

And another thing to do with the league (as it's the lowest league in the English football pyramid, hence why I follow them) is that you will have noticed that I've only got fixtures up to November in my signature. This is because they are released on a month-to-month basis not like other leagues where they are released at the start of the season.

Wow, even more weirdness. If they get promoted will you continue to follow them?

Of course, they are a new team this year as my other team got suspended last year.

I've seen their website (which hasn't updated for a month sadly) and I've seen they want to win the league and cup. So should be an interesting year.

And, to add to the weirdness, if they get to the First Division, they can't get promoted to the next level (which would be the Bristol and District League Division Six) they have to apply to a new football league system for some reason.

But, as it is only 1 club (some have two, three or four) and if they continue to get promoted to the top division, who knows, they may want to apply for promotion. I don't think there is a huge difference between the two leagues so wouldn't be a big step-up.

The reason I add that is for the last two years, a first team has won the First Division and were not promoted because they had 2 or 3 other teams participating in the leagues, so if they wanted to get promotion, those teams would have had to be disbanded so the first team can make the step up.

Ah right. I wasn't sure if you just wanted the novelty of supporting a new team or not.

I'm definitely going to follow your signature intently.

Nah, I've supported new teams in the past (like FC United) and continue to do so.

I'm also supporting the new Gretna team too.

Nice to hear mate I update it after every game or when there are new fixtures released (like the ones for December) and the signature will have to be put into a spoiler or something as the fixtures increase as the season goes on.

Aye, I try and watch out for the results of several teams. How close to you are Bishop Downs?

Oh, update me on Gretna.

First things first, it's the Bristol Downs :p:

Quite far away, looking at my location, and compare that to Bristol, a long way

I follow about 10 teams to be honest with you, it's crazy at times, but still like it.

Gretna 2008 are doing well, winning 8 of their opening 9 games, however, 4 have been in the league and the other 5 in cups. They are 6 points behind first place in the league, but have got 5 games in hand. They lost their first game in one of three cup competitions there is. Doing well overall, so should be a good year for them.

Why the hell had I always read that as Bishop Downs? And fair enough. You're probably their furthest away fan.

They'll probably gain a few more promotions, then have real difficulty applying to higher leagues.

It's probably because the team is Stoke Bishop. I might be their only fan too mate :p:

I hope they do, should be good if they do. I think there is a bit of a difference between the second and third division by the looks of what the people are saying on the messageboard they have.

I hope they gain a few promotions too, and if they continue with one team through all four divisions, they might want to apply for promotion. Who knows?

That'd be it. Maybe... but the players' Mums probably support them.

I dunno though, wouldn't the league be unwilling to give them entry back to the league?

Yeah, I'm sure they do

Would be interesting though (something to talk about in 5 years at the minimum). The thing is as well, the bottom teams in the Bristol and District League don't get relegated into the Downs League, so even if they didn't do well, they wouldn't get relegated.
