Just start talking to people  Usually the new people because they don't know anyone.

Talk to people you know/don't know and find people taking the same subjects as you

Thank you, guys! It's college luckily, so I can start a fresh from school and make myself look better than I did there :h:
Ha, I have quadruple maths tomorrow. :colondollar:

I sit between two girls in one of my subjects.

That is possibly the most socially awkward post on any thread in the whole of the TSR

Basically just go up to every single person you see and whisper "Harambe isn't dead."

anyone

The first thing you can do is have your head up high, showing your face makes you look more welcome and people are more likely to like you and want to talk to you. I know it's hard, I'm one to talk, I am so shy, I spent most of Year 11 science at the back of the classroom barely talking to anyone but the first step is to look approachable and like you are happy to talk

This might sound like really weird advice but go into every conversation as if it's the only conversation with this person you're ever going to have. I'm naturally rather shy and have a tendency to overthink what I say and how people perceive me but this really helps. It stops me from over analyzing situations and being a little bit more natural.

Other than that maybe try to just find something you like about someone and compliment them on it. Nine times out of ten saying you like someones shoes or something starts a conversation and it's really easy.

The whole be yourself thing doesn't seem helpful but it's true sadly:smile:

You don't need to constantly be talking to people to make friends! It's only been a few days - I am sure that you will be able to make friends soon enough. Right now, everyone will be their 'overly-friendly' persona. It will take some time for you to realise who you get on with, who you can relate to etc.

When I was in Sixth Form, all of my closest friends were externals. The only friends from Sixth Form who I'm still in contact with too are the externals.
Also - don't worry about being shy, there is nothing wrong with it at all. I used to be very shy myself and it's nothing to worry about. :nah:
Just because I like complaining, my day tomorrow is double Computing, double Core Maths and double Extension (which is apparently Olympiad type prep).

And we have a trip next week which is during 2 of my 4 frees :angry:

But I'm having fun so far and I've made friends and it all seems so awesome. (Especially my Fridays: triple maths and then double pe :u:)
First day of school today ahhh!! Got Maths and Comp Sci... eek.

Good luck everybody, hope everyone has a good day at school today.
I have three free periods tomorrow and currently very little homework, so that will be fun (very boring)

I know a few colleges (like mine) don't allow you to.

Oh wow, how coincidental, I go in Wednesday for an Induction and to meet my teachers

Hey how did it go? I chose my A levels today- german, English language, maths, geography and EPQ!
Unfortunately I missed the induction day as I was on holiday
2 days in and I can already say that economics is my favourite subject and history will undoubtedly be the death of me )
This looks interesting, might as well join in!

Hi Peeps,
My name's Michelle, 16 years old, just started yr12 like the rest of you I'm sure.
Not many hobbies, but: reading, socialising (if it counts), going to the gym and art&photo manipulation )

I'm taking: -Economics -Geography -English Lit.

Considered doing an AS or the EPQ, but I've heard some Uni's don't even regard it so much, so I suppose it's better to concentrate and spend more time on the subjects I've picked instead to get a better grade.

..I'm also here for advice to be honest.. I really REALLY enjoy art and photo manipulation to the point I got an A* in my Art GCSE Final Result, and kind of wanted to take it for A-Levels, but took English instead because it's valued more and I suppose it gives me more uni (and career) course choices in future.. and my mum pretty much disregarded even the idea of doing art.

Any opinions on this? (I got an A in english lit, which surprised me very much- as I was only expecting a B).
Did I make the right decision in doing English Lit. rather than Fine Art?

hey is there a thread for the EPQ? I have some questions about my topic idea but I'm not sure where to ask!
