Seems to stem from a lot of lib dem votes moving right as well as the shy Tory effect. Presumably they liked the status quo.

Leadership battles for UKIP, Labour, Lib Dems, (greens?) This year just got very interesting...

And with all that taken in conjunction with how long this campaign has been...ffs we're looking at, like, a year of election coverage total near solidly.

A couple of percent
But also, is it a case of shy Tory or people changing their mind when they have that piece of paper in front of them?
I think you're right. Something like 33% of people decided in the last week, 11% on the day.

I only decided as I walked in to the polling station.

You've got to give it to Cameron. Was marked as the leader who couldn't win an election, and then gave the Tories their first majority in 24 years. Still think he's a very weak Tory leader, but at least he's delayed Boris's inevitable rise for a few years.

I jumped for joy when I heard clegg stood down !!!

This was actually a really interesting election, and the fact they have only just scraped a majority will be very intriguing in 5 years time

Astonished and devastated, amazing comparing the turnout from last week to all of a sudden a Tory majority. I have some queries

1. Tories hoovered up the Lib Dem seats, not Labour?
2. Previous Labour voters switched from Labour to Tory to remain part of the Union?
3. SNP demolish Labour in Scotland
4. UKIP, DUP, Green make small gains.

Where did all these Tory voters come out of? And why?

Disastrous for the UK

Agree with Lab/Lib. Suzanne Evans maybe? She was credited with writing the manifesto so is obviously pretty active.

Possibly. They havent got many massive names to take over from Farage. Big shoes to fill

That's the biggest problem with the voting system. On the other hand, I like it because it usually results in a majority government, not some pathetic coalition made of three plus diverse parties who then compete for dominance.

Yeah... he survived a slaughter on 2 fronts so he must be doing something right...
If he does he'll get it...

Harman won't stand, she's already said she won't even stay as deputy.

Burnham will stand, not sure he will win, sadly a Blairite like Cooper is much more likely.

Lib Dems only hope of not dying now is Farron imho, he's the only one of them who is close enough to their pre-2010 stance to have any chance of saving their bacon. he won't be the only contender though imo

UKIP I really don't care, Carswell is surely the favourite? without Farage they will go backwards very quickly as well, not into oblivion but they'll probably lose about half their vote share.

I'm so upset by the election results that I can't bring myself to go to my politics class. I'm gonna go get my prescription and then go back home and cry.
