    Serious question:
Does anyone else's mum call them 'mama' and dad call them 'baba'?

Why do Arab parents do this??

Well I have noticed the parents saying that to the kids I teach when they come to pick them up
    ya baba, ya mama

    Do you find it weird?

Well, not every Arab person has the same brain and the same mentality. It depends.

    What do you teach?

No I don't find it weird. I never gave it much thought until one of my friends noticed and then he asked me why my mum called me mama. I realised I couldn't explain the reason myself

I teach Arabic/Quran to kids on the weekends.

I guess they say it to show affection, and from what I have seen it seems more prevalent in Levantian families. I haven't seen the Sudanese or Egyptian families use it.
