OK, so I'm in at Notts and waiting to hear if a place materialises from waiting list at George's. Anyone got any input as to pros/cons of each? So far have:-

    Notts

Pros- Small, Friendly, Cheap, Close to Peak District, A fair way from home so should help focus the mind.
Cons- Miles from friends and family, Not a large student community so limited clubs/societies.

    Georges

Pros- LONDON!, University of London Union - therefore clubs and societies galore, Larger uni therefore more people to socialise with, Close to home/friends/family, Don't need a car, could potentially continue working weekends.

Cons- Cost of everything in London.

Anybody have any feedback as to quality of teaching/feedback/student support or any other aspects of the course I have omitted from either?

have you tried NHS Professionals?... I got one of my posts through here, although haven't actually worked any shifts for them as work at two other hospitals.

    http://www.nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk/f...t-Workers.aspx

dont know if that will help. I am a member of NHSP and I'm going to see if I can transfer when I move. I see you are checking NHS jobs, but also check individual trust pages for recruitment days as some hospitals have their own bank. If you don't mind saying, tell me your local area/hospital and I'll have a look up for details if you like.
Thanks very much, I'll PM you

Yup, I'll never understand it - last year, I got a *4* for my work experience - I've worked in hospitals for over 10 years, and a *4* for enthusiasm... why would I bother applying at all if I wasn't enthusiastic about the job!!!

that's incredible that you got a 4 and you worked in hospitals. If you told me before the interview I would of been really scared as you have a lot more work experience than me.

The only think I can think of is that I was nervous *and* exhausted, so I may have just come off badly?

I'd give them a call on Monday - it may be you're wait-listed?

Yes good idea. This was the case for someone on here (see page 25) and when they emailed they found out they were on the waiting list.

I've still not had a letter or an update, and when I emailed, I got asked about something else (my current degree), and still don't have an answer... I assume it's waiting list...

I'd definitely call them, it's after the 17th so you should know by now, even if it's a waiting list place.

Does anyone know how fee payments work? Do we pay the fees in one lump sum or in installments?

I'm pretty certain it's one lump sum on starting the course. Would probably be best to email the finance dept. Notts seem to have a pretty decent one, quite helpful and knowledgeable re. GEM.

I may have misunderstood, I thought Nug was referring to the ~£3,500 we need to pay ourselves in first year.
A combination of Student loans and NHS bursaries are available to pay the remainder of the fees.

You can pay your ~3k in either one lump sum, or across three installments throughout the year (which most people have done so far). Incidentally it reminds me that my current one is due.

    Hey people!

Has everyone joined the Notts GEM 2015-2019 facebook group? (I just found it).

I'm thinking about accommodation. Whats everyones ideas? I'm erring away from the derby uni accomodation, thinking more private housing and was advised this way by the students when I went to the intial open day in 2014. -Funny how the open day appears the exact same format; atleast its an opportunity to meet fellow students!

I'm thinking the same, I can't imagine moving back into halls, plus I looked at the Lonsdale hall fb page and ATM there's no water (showers, food, loo!) and hasn't been for at least 24hrs, not a shining endorsement! Looking forward to the open day, I'm flying in from Prague on Friday for it - can't wait to meet you guys!

    Definitely private student housing

Yeah I was thinking that, though I'm hoping the questions that get asked are going to be less about people cacking it for the GAMSAT/Work experience questionnaire. Also I don't think there was a senior tutor talk before right?
I'm thinking of hanging around after the day is up, grab a few drinks and scout out some housemates.
