Having just rechecked Thursdays forecast (which is changing as wildly as one would expect) I really hope this time it holds:

particularly with the truly awful weather during the main voting period.

It's worth saying that these thundery events end up getting toned down as models like to overplay instability (it's why they forecast snow showers in winter that never occur) but to cheer you up this mornings run..

The rain is the important bit rather than the storm

For a short period only . Remain is only ahead by 1-2pts ( hardly anything to make a difference) . Other polls ( Yougov Comres , Opunium, ICM etc ) are putting leave head .
If we vote to remain it has to be by a clear majority I.e 8-10pts lead ahead of leave in order for it to be legiment . The government cannot keep us in with anything less
So if remain won by 3-4pts it is illegment and doesn't give them a clear majority... It would likely cause calls for a second referendum

Nigel Farage to no ones surprise is playing the victim this morning for the murder of Jo Cox.

    'We had momentum until this'

Of course Nigel, how unfair on you that one of your lot committed a brutal murder after you've been normalising the views of the far right for years.

Wait... So if we vote to leave by 52-48 it's legitimate but in the other way round its legitimate? That makes no sense...

Welcome to the mindset of a Scottish nationalist where the neverendum never ends.

More reason not to have referenda on important stuff ever again.

What I'm saying is that is that the remain campaign must win by at least 10% for it to be a clear victory and then they can say the majority want to stay . If remain wins by around 4-5% its not a mandate to remain and it would cause calls for a second referendum. If more people vote to leave then the government has to begin the process to leave

Stupid, selective and simplistic. But it's rarer to see anything else on here.

I could just as easily show a video of someone recieving life saving treatment by the NHS and contrast it with a person in America who can't afford such treatment.

I could also find a video of a poor African child working in a sweatshop for 2p a day and go 'look how well capitalism works'

Both socialism and capitalism have their good and bad points and clearly a combination of the two is needed.

Seeing either as wholly good or bad, ignoring the opposite point is idiotic. Perhaps I'm expecting to much though in wanting to see just a little bit of nuance.

What an utterly stupid argument. If remain wins by one vote we remain, if leave wins by one vote we leave.

There is no legal or political requirement for a super majority.
Whatever the result, unless an exact dead heat, the issue will be settled for a generation.

Only issue is that if it weren't for a referendum Scotland would have pealed off...

    so you are saying
    55:45 remain =remain
    50:50 = second referendum
    Any vote leave =leave.

That makes no sense. If anything 60:40 leave =leave
    50:50 = government decides
    Any vote remain = remain.

People can't have their cake and eat it.

This referendum will be decisive, even if decided by a thousand votes, people will have to acknowledged that their side lost instead of responding by denial and not accepting the democratic outcome.

    Best regards

Or, you mean, any majority for leave: leave
    Tie or remain majority: remain

I'd say that 52:48 leave would be sufficient for the status quo to win. Although personally in referendums I think that supermajorities should be needed to defeat the status quo. At lease for the most part.
