Gerrard's number 4 Does anyone else find that a bit weird?, it's a centre backs number is it not?

Joe Hart won't be getting any playing time then
hmmm that'd be a shame if he doesn't, although he's young I think he's better than Carson, Green or Robinson and much more reliable than David James who I always feel has a mistake in him.

No centre-backs are 5 and 6, central midfielders are usually 4 and 8.

The numbers come from the days of the 2-3-5 formation:

    11..10..9..8..7
    ....6..5..4.....
    .......3..2......

Then it's fairly easy to see how these shifted over time into a 4-4-2.

I bet the first 11 against USA is nothing like 1-11.

BTW, on FM 2007 I always make 4 a CB and 6 a CM (formation permitting). :awesome:

    Germany 0-1 Bosnia.

No idea what their team is, but people criticise England as if every other nation is winning comfortably by 5 goals.

Perhaps Germany should stick to playing amateurs

It's the German first team. Italy losing to Mexico too.

So that's Italy and Germany that aren't going to win the WC then

    Now it's 2-0 to Mexico

I don't think there's many other countries that get as much flack as England do from their own "support".

So Mexico beat Italy 2-1. Time to rule them out...

You don't want to be losing at this late stage but most of the top teams have the group stages to get their act together. Last World Cup, Argentina and Spain looked like they would walk through the tournament from their group performances but they peaked too early.

In fairness the Italian squad is lacking some real quality. A dearth of top quality strikers but a fair few in the bracket below, whilst the suaul sturdy defence is looking miserable. I was surprised to find Cannavaro is still even in the set-up tbh having seen him flop in Madrid and move to his hometown club.

Cannavaro is off to Al Ahli now as well.

Bosnia aren't "minnows" or amateurs by any means. They're an excellent young side.

Italy on the other hand are **** and won't go far. The only players that currently stand out in the whole of the team are Buffon and Chiellini; the rest of the squad are decidedly average.
