Undoubtedly, the lecturer to whom you refer is Prof. S (unless there have been staff changes at Manchester).

He was my favourite lecturer from Manchester; a great lecturer and also a very nice guy. He is also very funny - probably the only courses I did at Manchester that I attended every lecture were his courses and a course on smooth manifolds.

I remember one lecture course we did, the room was always used just before for a numerical analysis course and when any remnants were left on the board he always stared at it before saying "We must remove this pornography!"
He's a good lecturer, but going to algebraic structures 1 is the biggest waste of time in the world as we did most of it during year 1.

Caroline Dean is better. His humour always seem forced, but at least he tried. Smooth mainfolds, there is no such course now.

Jake I think I've seen you before. Also, are you friends with the guy who created Galois group. As he mention having three friends name Jake, Milo and Fizz as a joke.

And it was a great drunken night until, totally out of the blue, he asks: "have you ever thought about having sex with me?"

o. O

So lectures are pretty effing awkward for me right now. Also this isn't really spam because it is Maths Uni-related
What did you anwser?

Also, that's a crappy chat up line. He clearly should have said "why haven't we had sex yet?"(4chan meme).

Just do what all girls do and say they were too drunk to remember what happened...
It probably be obvious from assmaster expression that there is awkardness. How some people seem awkard than others. Awkardness is something that is easily spotted.

Three in a row sounds pretty good to me... Durham seems to like its four/five hour blocks.

I went on a bar crawl with my coursemate the other night - you know, one of those coursemates who you sit next to in every lecture and hang out in the library nerding it up between tutorials and steal notes from?

And it was a great drunken night until, totally out of the blue, he asks: "have you ever thought about having sex with me?"

I'd reckon he reads these forums.

"No, I do enough abstract thinking during lectures."

I'm doing badly across the board in my subjects

I understand and follow macroeconomics, but none of it goes in my head, I can't do any questions without copying out the book/lecture notes. I'm very worried about this exam.

I don't really get microeconomics too much and not really caught up fully with it, but I think I can manage this one if everything else is fine.

Calculus is finished for the year, but I'm worried I've already forgotten everything we did last term, which I crammed in 1 week in Christmas.

Linear algebra I'm starting to fall behind on Must not!

Differential equations and real analysis I'm very behind on (basically done 0 analysis and behind on 3 lectures out of 5 in DEs).

Bad times, very bad times.

ec202's the most difficult out of those so I'd start working on making sure you understand it fully, and once you do, the exam will be straight-forward. There's nothing difficult about ec210...just learn the models (you can only be asked questions that involve a slight change of the problems given in problem sets and the textbook). And all the math modules just need practice. I hadn't done many of the homeworks in time either and used to go at my own pace...it doesn't really matter as long as it gets done before the exam. Not a problem at all. :yy:

You need to be more specific than "an exam in A-level maths". Do you know which module you're being tested on?

Sorry to sound vague but I don't know that much tbh about it all the information that is up on the blackboard (student information site) is the following;
" ALevel Exam on Business Maths and Statistics side"

You'll probably just have to wait until you start learning it, because that title is pretty useless. In the meantime just brush up on the maths you already know, so you're as well-equipped as possible when the module starts.

I didn't know what to say. Say no and hurt his feelings? Say yes and lead to further questions? Laugh? Anyway, it was truth or drink, so I chose to drink. And then go home. SO AWKWARD.

ESPECIALLY since he is supposed to be a seriously good Christian: he goes to church twice a week, has prayer meetings, does Bible study. I felt like I was enticing him into a world of sin.

Can't, unfortunately. It's gone further than just that now, he keeps talking about 'us'. Turns out I'm not only his first uni crush, but his first ever crush (all boys school and rugby doesn't do much for meeting girls apparently, and he is usually really shy).

AND I'm supposed to be living with him next year, so I had to tell my three other future housemates. And they helpfully asked what his kissing technique was like, and if I enjoyed his rowing shoulders. EXCELLENT.

So much angst in this post, apologies.

Well, I don't think he is responsible for setting the curriculum althought the course did seem pretty basic at the time. I think there still is a course on Smooth Manifolds except it is probably called 'Introduction to Manifolds' or 'Differentiable Manifolds' or something similar.

Probably not because I think I probably left Manchester before you started. I know the person that created the Galois Group (no, not Evariste Galois - the Galois group was (is? I don't know if it is still running) an undergrad run seminar series at Manchester Uni)

Also, the person who created the Galois group was female so maybe you are getting confused with someone who is running it at the moment? I don't know any Milos or Fizzs and if it is a guy you are thinking of - the Jake is probably not me either.

It seems a bit stupid how slow Analysis and Algebra is taught, like no rings until second year. The Analysis exam in the first year was a joke. Could made the first year more hard.

Dammit, checked and you are correct. Thought the group was created two years ago by some blogger.

If you don't like him just say to him you see him as a good friend. You got to friendzone him and maybe ignore him, which will be hard if you are living with him next year.

That probably explains it. In a way he sounds like he has strict parents and in the future will become less Christian, certainly why would you send your child to an all boys school?

Just friendzone him.

Ugh, it's absolutely disgusting that in a supposedly reputable university, you still get complete idiots.

I was listening to our student radio earlier, and two total dicksplashes were sending in awful racist messages (about 30 over an hour) telling the presenters to go home, calling them so many offensive names, I'm SO ANGRY. It's so cowardly, on message boards where you don't have to even put your real name. UGH

/rant

Our tech guy is tracking their IP addresses and taking it up with the IT service, so if I were those students, I'd be ****ting myself right about... now.
