I think so, because even if you have made a correct point in your answer, the teacher/person marking your paper might not be a biology teacher so they won't understand it, so they just go by the mark scheme
That's really unfair. They might give you no marks if you have the idea whereas if it was marked by someone who knew, you might get a mark. Could be difference between grades!

With primary succession, pionear species are able to create a less hostile environment(cba to explain you know why probs), which takes along time to create a climax community. For secondary succession, the process is much quicker as the soil tends to be rich in nutrients as a result of primary succession and some small organisms are still present. Consequently a climax community is reached much quicker
Thanks

Model answer worth 5 marks about succession?
A pioneer species will settle and change the environment around it, say a rock and moss growing on it.
Then, when the organisms die, humus is formed creating soil and allowing other more complicated organisms to take over due to the environment being less hostile.
Then, the newer species will outcompete the old species.
I think the 5th mark may come from the things which they are outcompeting them with. i.e. light and nutrients.

1 Acetyl coenzyme - 3 REDUCED NAD
2 " "-6 REDUCED NAD

2 REDUCED NAD IN LINK REACTION

2 REDUCED NAD IN GLYCOLYSIS

SO 10 overall.

Arggh my hand... I've done every past paper from jan 2010 to jan 2013 today (for like the third time properly writing it out). Not too sure how much it benefited me as I know most of the answers off by heart by now, but still at least I'm getting some practice in. Not too sure what to do now! Back to the book I guess...great...

Oh yeah do things "predate" on other things, does that make sense? Or can you only say, X "preys" on Y?

Ok thanks, I was just making sure it makes sense to say something predates on something else. For some reason my mind wasn't sure whether the grammar was right there!

Oh yeah guys, big tip for tomorrow morning.

Take water into the exam with you.
DO NOT go into that exam hungry. Even if it is a slice of plain toast or a banana.
Do not stress, stress and you will forget!
