They cant take down sites like warez bb and torrent sites as they are based in other countries where UK law doesnt apply. If they do take it down then mirrors will pop up everywhere, and new sites. The government can win the war on piracy, not can it win this new war on porn.

Porn is not exactly harmful either, I think I was 11-12 when I first watched it, I dont see the big deal.
I completely disagree. When i was about 7 my uncle was looking after me and let me watch music videos on his computer, and one of the videos was actually an extreme porn video. It was pretty horrific, i was really upset. Not a good memory

So yes.. I'm in favour of this thing tbh, not hard for any teenagers or adults to get it provided for them.

Your ability to procreate? I'm afraid he can't stop your procreating with your hand, a banana skin or even, gosh almighty, a live lady.

Your ability to procreate may be inherently weak, however.
Just wait until the pregancy licences come in...

Then its your uncles fault for being unresponsible, this wouldnt have stopped it anyway as your uncle could just opt in and have it available. It wont be hard for anyone to get it really as its an unworkable system, and those you do opt in will have there names on a database saying they like porn, which is bound to get out and be very embarrassing for a lot of people.

By the sounds of it, it will be up to the ISP's to find and black these sites, so the cost of internet will also have to rise.

There should be a pregnancy license, some people are not fit to even take care of a stone let alone a baby.

Clothes shops sometimes show a bit of nip. The american apparel online store would have to be banned because there are nips every where on there.

TLDR: The government has plans to make it so that you have to ring up your ISP to opt into internet porn sites, in a bid to stop children accessing pornography.

IMO, a terrible idea, not only is it not going to work, the government shouldn't be interfering with the internet. It also a huge double-standard - the music industry have been crying out for them to do something about illegal downloads for YEARS and they've done sod all!
Ridiculous. Interfering with freedom of expression and all that. If someone wants to watch porn, let them. Also, I don't think children accessing porn is a big problem. I knew what sex was from the age of 6, and it never did me any harm.

This is the government who are supposed to be small state non interventionists

They did something like this is Australia and it made them very unpopular. Governments shouldn't have to regulate the internet for people. If parents don't want their children accessing porn then they should use the internet filters on their computer, and if they don't know how to do this then the Gov should put up a webpage explaining how.

A good idea; pornography's become too pervasive in our general culture.

(Awaiting neg rep from the febrile-groined teens that populate this place. )
Hahahaha, I love how true that turned out to be.

Well, we're meant to be for mimimum state intervention, so Idk how the hell this is Conservative policy. :lolwut:

I think it's vote-winning "Oh look at us, saving innocent children from horrible porn!" kind of thing. It's pathetic.

It's the parent's problem if they can't regulate their children's internet. You've got so many parental controls available, can't they make an effort? Censorship that can easily be bypassed anyway won't solve anything.
    +1

Why are the conservatives acting like Labour?

This statist **** wasn't why they were voted in.

I hope this falls through. As a Conservative Party member who joined on the basis that it would roll back the frontiers of the state, I'm actually quite angry it's even being considered. Regulation of content is a parent's responsibility, not some berk in Whitehall's.

If I wanted a government that tried to be a meddling, moral authority, I'd have voted Labour.
