Anon, he has friends on here, don't want it going back to him that I'm devastated etc...

So, basically just been pretty harshly dumped, I was told that I just didn't fit into his life anymore! Here I was thinking everything was fine....

So, tuneage?
It depends, do you want to feel better or mourn?

Feel better:
F**k You - Eamon - perhaps the best break up song
Break up to Make Up - Jeremih
Don't Call me Baby - Madison Avenue
I don't wanna know - Mario - one of the best break up songs

Mourn:
Careless Whisper - George Michael
Stay with me - Bobby Valentino
Cry - Jay Sean

I quite like 'Ashes and Wine' by A Fine Frenzy
'Brick by Brick' by Train
Laura Marling: 'Ghosts' or 'My Manic and I'

'Tiny vessels' by Death Cab for Cutie, on a lyric website there's a pretty epic comment about the closure the song brought for one girl whose ex let it replay while they had sex, which was pretty harsh as it's about being with someone you don't truly love.

not that i would advocate this kind of music in ANY way, shape of form, but a friend sent me this song after a breakup. there's a bit where she sings "i know there's a blue horizon somewhere up ahead just waiting for me", so it's kind of about breaking up and moving on, and having better days ahead. the song is not to my taste personally but you might like it.

I actually broke up with my long term girlfriend today. Noone has mentioned Alkaline trio, who are the ultimate kings of break up songs!

Here is why:

"I don't care who you've been dining with these days
It's more than fair
Much rather be drinking anyways
With my friend Peter
Who lives so ****ing far away
Yet not as far as you
Even though you live right down my ****ing street

And I'm tired of sleeping with myself
I'm tired, all these drinks and drugs no longer help
I'm tired of lying about not thinking of you
Maybe my friend Peter can tell me what to do

I dont care who you've been kissing on these days
It's out of my hands
and in my mouth with such a pleasant taste
I need a beer to wash it all away without a trace
And then i'll drink 23 more
To wipe this stupid smile off my ****ing face"

Check out:

My friend peter
Crawl
Message from Kathlene
She took him to the lake
Take Lots with Alcohol
Emma
Dead on the floor

And one of the best - Stupid Kid -

"Remember when I said I love you
Well, forget it I take it back
I was just a stupid kid back then
I take back every word that I said"

They write such epic **** YOU songs!

Enjoy!

I'm pretty different to most people.

I don't listen to anything upbeat or anything happy. I see no point in pretending like I'm ok.

I listen to really slow and depressing music and just ride it out. I'll admit that it really doesn't help at all.

Last time I broke up with a girl a few days later she decided to pull the "my life isn't worth living anymore, you've destroyed me" line that I'm sure a few of you have heard. I was listening to sad music and crying a bit then my mum walked in and I burst out crying like a baby. Thanks god for Mums and cups of tea eh ? Don't know what I'd of done that night without them. Point being I'm really bad at acting happy when I'm sad.

I can't listen to positive music when I'm sad though. I just end up getting angry and wanting to throw my speakers into the pond.

 Rep for you! This is one of the greatest emotional songs ever.

OP:

'I look up to the sun, it only hurts my eyes, maybe it's the answer I've been wanting in disguise.'

It's a bit shouty but hopefully it makes sense

I love The Sword and the Shield by Clare Maguire, and also Freedom as well. In fact, just check out her whole album. It got me through a pretty emotional break up. Ironically, it was my ex that introduced me to her music...
