Most of those 'other courses' are relatiely doss. Just like SSEES. 31 out of UCLs 37 departments being 'excellent' says more about UCL than it does about SSEES. Mind, excellent is something the Times gives too easily and gives because SSEES is in such an obscure field, it'd be hard to be less than excellent really...

It's still doss compared to the comparable parts of UCL. For history, it is worse than the history department. For economics, worse than the economics department etc.

If you go there to study something purely linked to what SSEES specialises in, good for you. But many don't.

And if you find 'the song' sad, I pity you. It's a sports song and portrays our high class, HIGH CLASS! (welcome to the world of wit)

Nah, it's the only one I know and you kind of pick it up from other people. It has probably changed over the many decades it's been around since 'Strand Poly' is a recent term of abuse I think...

I also applied to both UCL and KCL and I chose UCL. I visited both places and I just found UCL to be a more welcoming place. When I went to Kings for an open day, everyone seemed a bit stand-offish. Not sure why. But when I went to UCL, I felt at ease almost right away.
Of course this is my personal feeling, it might be different for you. But I've always felt that first impressions mean a lot.

I got into KCL too. But they sent me so much stuff, so much letters, so many mails... and I live by the code that "I don't want to be part of a club that wants me as their member so easily".

Ok, that's just bs, but at least remotely close to the truth.

None of my economics friends really know anything about Burlington Bertie, except from me and other lawyers... and the rugby team.

Kings have some song about us too don't they?

They don't? Better educate them then But I guess we don't have the same kind of anti-Kings sentiment because Kings don't do our course...

It's probably rubbish. It is from Strand Poly after all...

lol I don't think you can call subjects like Architecture and Biochemical engineering relatively doss

and languages are generally lower anyway e.g. Italian, Dutch, Hebrew

ok whatever there's no real point in arguing over this....

    the moral is:

    UCL rocks..KCL sucks :p:

I just think that you should be more open/welcoming to SSEES students...apparently (saw this in another thread - an email from the department admissions) they have around 8 applications for every place - which is relatively decent...so basically not everyone gets in!

instead of picking on other UCL students...pick on KCL students!!

When SSEES students doing Economics, Business, Random insert, Random and Eastern European Studies stop saying they do Economics (to people and on their CV (!!!), I just might consider it. Until then, they can stop tarnishing us.

I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but you seem kind of insecure and overly defensive.

No, I think it's damn cheeky that someone who isn't taking my degree (which is regularly considered one of the best UCL has to offer) is trying to pass themselves off as taking it. Especially when their degree is pretty regularly considered fairly far from one of the best ones offered. Worst of all, it threatens to devalue the degree I am taking.

I'll agree with Ben on this one, kind of lame to put something else on your CV. By the way, where do you guys get the statistics for number of applications for each place and such?

Why did you get a warning?
Getting emotional in the sports forum.

Apparently, ******* but change the first * for a letter that say lies between b and h (you decide which one) is worthy of a warning point.

I think most 13 year olds have grown up beyond that but so be it. I don't give a "hammer and sickle".
