    Yes. It is a problem.
Well it wasn't a problem when these 'white countries' thrived off colonisation. Don't be so ignorant.

    That was many years ago.

    This is 2013.

Ideas, the world, the way things work, it's not the same anymore.

So today I was asked by my teacher to do a short essay on "The biggest problem faced by the world right now?" however I don't really have a clue what to write about. So if you could give me some suggestions that would be great! Thanks

Unlike Capitalism which has been working faultlessly...
I don't think anyone that's being intellectually honest thinks we've had true capitalism in the West for a long time - we've had market socialism since the end of WWII.

Religion and its ****ing venomous stranglehold
So true. Without religion there would be far less problems in the world.

Poverty in third world countries. This has been the biggest problem since [insert any date here].

That's not what I'm saying but who are we to say our way of living is better than that of other cultures. We impart our way of living where it has no need.
How have we "imparted our way of living" or forced people to do so? In any case, this still doesn't answer why it's "the biggest global problem".

I'm not saying it's a problem or necessarily a bad thing
Then why in the flying **** are you posting this in a thread entitled "biggest global problem"?

but why do tribes people in rural Himalyas or Pakistan need an education?
Presumably because the likely alternative is fewer human rights being afforded to them.

You go to school, uni, get a job just so you can earn money but money means nothing when you gather your own food,
Money only has value based on your desire to partake in trade and exchange. If you don't want to participate in that, then I don't see how other people's choice to do so affects you or those who chose not to.

produce your own clothes and build your own house all with skills passed onto you from your elders. Sure helping people out with medicine etc. is great but who's to say the our way of living is better than theirs?
Almost every objective measure of quality of life. I'm assuming you're not making the case that feudalism and anarchic warlords are better systems than the one we have now.

[quotes]Our Western values are just eradicating their cultures and traditions and making them part of the consumerisation which they have no need for.[/QUOTE]

I see no reason why you seem to attribute "western values" as this somehow exclusive philosophy that people of other cultures wouldn't want to access themselves without coercion. In fact, I'd say your believe that these values are "owned" by us to be more insulting to them than anything. Bare in mind, I'm (partially) one of these "non-Western cultures" that you have a raging boner for

Also, none of this has anything to do with "white people" as you claimed in your original post in this thread. I honestly have no idea how you have any rep with this ridiculous rationale.

I suggested it as an alternative slant in contrast to all the cliché overpopulation, poverty and sustainability posts. Granted, this almost certainly isn't the biggest problem faced and perhaps it isn't even up there as you seem to think but I guarantee the other suggestions in this thread will be the same topics covered in everyone else's essay so pardon me for trying to suggest something slightly original.

I'm not a particularly traditional or remotely religious person myself but I think it's important that these cultures are preserved in preference over the corporatism and consumerism which has no relevance on their way of life. You obviously disagree but I'm not really sure what it is about this mentality which upsets you so much. Call me a stick in the mud but just because it's the western way of doing things, it doesn't necessarily make them right.

Being "original" doesn't take precedence over a real answer to the question. He might as well perform his essay as "interpretive dance" for all your suggestion is worth.

I'm not a particularly traditional or remotely religious person myself but I think it's important that these cultures are preserved in preference over the corporatism and consumerism which has no relevance on their way of life.
Capitalism and native cultures aren't mutually exclusive.

It doesn't upset me, it's just a silly argument to make and the implication that this is about "white people" is pretty insulting.
