I mention it as a 'student site' or 'student forum' in conversation if I'm talking about something I found out but never say what it's called (and people never care enough to ask). I will never say the name because I want to remain anonymous for as long as I am on the site.

People don't know I use it but that's not because I hide it, it's just never popped up in conversation. I'm not sure what to answer in the pole!

Well people know that I use it but they don't know that I have an account. I'm like that with all my social media accounts though, I haven't added anyone on FB for like 2 years.

I never discuss it as such. Some people do know that I moderate a forum though.

He started one legitimate thread and then started trolling pretty much immediately. :awesome:
    Did you ban him IRL?

I have mentioned going on the site to my family a few times, but no-one knows I have an account because I wouldn't want them to find out about what I say on the internet.

I don't feel any need to hide it. :nah: I don't make any special point of highlighting my involvement with the site, but others know of my use of the site and position on the mod team.

I have told my parents that I come on an English forum, but I don't have told them that I'm on TSR.

I don't actively tell people I'm on TSR, but a lot of my friends know. And my parents have somehow managed to find my profile.

I don't tell anyone I love how I can just speak my mind, without worrying that someone who knows me is reading all my posts....

And plus, I HATE my username. And because I'd be too embarrassed to say this is my username, I think I'm better off not mentioning TSR at all. I would actually like to get to know some people off here in real life, but the thought of saying "Hi, I'm Nice.Guy" ... :afraid:

Some of my friends and family know. Others don't. I don't go around shouting about it, but I talk about it sometimes.

Pretty much what you said, but if someone asked I would tell them

Really? You come out in a conversation with 'I saw it on a student site' and no-one ever says 'oh, which one?'?

Perhaps because this is the main student site, so everyone assumes you mean TSR...

I think it's because I'm not currently in education and neither are the people I usually speak to though the two that are never ask either.

I actually cite it in my work a lot. Currently the Education Officer in my Students' Union and it's a useful source for students' views and opinions on things from what individual Schools/Departments are doing well/not so well, to what impact changes to the HE sector are having on applicants, students, and graduates alike. It's not the most representative sample in the world, I'm sure, but a sample nonetheless!

In terms of personal use, meh. I don't hide it, but it doesn't come up in conversation that often. My friends IRL are into the outdoors, computer science, Scouting, and amateur radio, all of which have more specialised places to chat/discuss
