I like clubbing because it can be fun to dress up nicely and dance to some good loud music around lots of other dancing people. And alcohol can be cool for the effects of making you feel a bit less inhibited in order to have a better time (but obviously don't be stupid and drink so much that you end up having a worse time, lol). I don't like most alcohols though, but I do drink sweet drinks like cider, alcopops, whisky, cocktails, etc.

But if none of that is your thing then that's OK. You could probably find some people who don't go drinking or clubbing.

people don't drink booze for the taste, they drink it for the effects, which can make an evening more enjoyable. It's not popular for nothing.
I'd have to disagree to a certain degree. Yes sometimes it is drunk for the effects however I love the taste of beer and if I just go down the pub for a drink and to chat with friends I drink it for the taste rather than the effects. On the other hand if I want to lose my inhabitions or drown my sorrows then I will drink something stronger like spirits simply for the effects.

You can try it, and if you don't like it, then that is fine. You can get involved with societies and do other things with friends on your course.

Personally, clubbing is okay, but it isn't my favourite activity. I wouldn't be able to do it on a regular basis.

what a load of ****e, i love the taste of wine, i love the taste of many spirits/liqueurs/cocktails. i like cidre and it's so refreshing on hot summer day. i like most beers too.

in fact i often have wine with meals at lunch time mainly. definitely don't drink it for the boozing factor...

if i am going out then i will drink for the effect, but if i go out for lunch with the family or friends or something and have a cocktail or wine or beer or whatever, it's cos it tastes good.

agree with this tbh. one of the best nights ever i had was at a bar. spent most of the night just meeting new people and chatting and smoking, i love nights like that. i enjoy clubbing but it is my least favourite as the guys there are after one thing, and i don't give them the time of day, you can't just relax when chatting to them and it's harder to meet new people and enjoy conversation.

I really dislike clubbing. I hate the atmosphere, the music and especially the cost. Drinking isn't really my thing either. All beers, to me, taste like Fosters, and Fosters tastes like piss. Ciders I can manage, but the only one I actually like the taste of is Kopparberg.

Love a good house party me. You meet friends of friends, your social circle widens and you can actually have a decent conversation without shouting yourself into oblivion.

Well, for me it's all about the dancing! I don't really drink that much, just enough to get tipsy and am probably on the dancefloor for most of the time. Lose yourself in the blinding lights and embrace the euphoria!

It's for chavs mainly and people who want to fit in. Mind you, I wouldn't mind some of the "benefits" like the chance to shag a few clubbing ****s, plus their drunk, so you can do things like licking their armpits that they wouldn't normally let you do otherwise

Because it's nice to let yourself go and forget about work for a while, and it's a lot easier to do that when you're drunk. Alcohol is a social lubricant, it's a great way to meet new people. The clubbing environment isn't that great but I think it's the high concentration of like-minded people that attracts students there. It's like having a party except you don't have to organise it and you don't have to clean up afterwards. I can understand why you wouldn't want to go clubbing if you're not into alcohol. You can still go out and socialise if you're not drinking, just try and get in with groups that prefer a few drinks in a trendy, upmarket bar rather than knocking back shots until 5am and getting into a total mess.

yeah I'm not saying no one likes it, but the effect is the primary thing surely for most people on a night out

I love the confidence alcohol gives you (absolutely hate the taste), and when you and all your mates are leathered its just funny (obviously not dangerously). I like chart music too so town is quite fun for me. The music has to be good for you to enjoy it, im not sure if they have it in other places but in Liverpool theres a place called the Krazy House which has 3 different floors, the 1st floor is heavy metal/screamo type music, the 2nd floor is full of random hits from like Queen to Blink-182 (my favourite floor) and then the 3rd floor is all chart stuff. You could also try finding an alcohol you enjoy too, I normally go for redbull and vodka as the redbull disguises the vodka really well. If youve been before and were sober then dont let that put you off, town can be pretty dire when sober.
