Think some stuff gets hype driven so it becomes the thing to watch if your young at uni etc, a few years back it was Noel Edmonds, what's in the box, now no one could give a s**t what's in the box (I never could and only watched it once it was ok but a bit pedestrian really so had better things to do with my time. So no one talks about that now, its no longer trendy to be talking about it, its trendy to be mouthing out 'Breaking Bad' every few minutes when socialising with others, see it happening all the time, its irritating to see people that fear not following the crowd. Think some people are a bit fake. Chances are like, 'what's in the box' it probably bores the pants of some people but they pretend they like it and watch it just to keep in with there social circle as they fear being left out. Watched first episode of breaking bad found it enjoyable enough, watched part of second season but finding it a bit boring so far, genuinely speaking. Also watched Prison Break all the way through, much preferred that really, a bit too much double crossing that gets predictable after a while but still good fun.

Breaking Bad, the poor man's version of The Wire.

That makes no sense. They're completely different shows.

There are many similarities. Five seasons, crime related (specifically drugs), but transcend the genre of crime drama. You're telling me that Gus Fring isn't a rip of Brother Mouzone!? Obviously different in many ways too. Breaking bad is nothing special at all.

The fact that there are five seasons is pretty irrelevant. Six Feet Under has five seasons too. So what?

The fact that they are both drug related is about the only similarity in my opinion. And I can't draw any parallels between Fring and Brother Mouzone tbh.

(Also you should probably quote your sources  http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2013/09/greatest-tv-show-ever-the-wire-vs-breaking-bad - "The similarities are there: Both series consist of five seasons, both focus on crime, specifically drug crime, but both transcend the genre of "crime drama.")

There are lots of parallels between those characters, have you even watched either show properly? I doubt it. You probably came here to say you like breaking bad (lol)

No need to quote sources since it's not an essay.
I thought the first three seasons were awful. Whereas 4 and 5 were incredible.

And? What else?

I don't know how anyone can call breaking bad boring and then go on to say sopranos as their favourite show either

I didn't say Breaking Bad was boring. I do find The Sopranos more interesting though. As well as The Wire. Also, there are many things which are not perhaps better i.e. they do not have the same production values, but I certainly prefer.

You made a claim about the shows being similar. I asked you how. Instead of responding properly, you googled it and then straight up plagiarised the opening paragraph of a discussion about the subject from another website.

I called you up on that, and you resort to trying (quite poorly) to discredit my opinion.

So, obviously it's not worth my time trying to have a discussion with you. So I won't.
After watching shows like GOT , The Wire and Boardwalk Empire prior to even hearing about the whole Breaking Bad hype I do struggle to get through the episodes , I'm currently almost through season 2 and its all been pretty mediocre TV to me .

Nowhere near the previously mentioned shows and a whole multitude of others .

I don't value your opinion at all so I'm not too bothered.

At the end of the day, it comes down to personal taste and opinion doesn't it. For some reason, a lot of people get very defensive when they find out other people don't like something that they do. People think that if they love something, then everybody else should too!

Personally I loved The Wire and GoT but after the first season of Boardwalk Empire, had absolutely no desire to watch the second.

I don't get the game of thrones comparison? What do these two shows have in common?

They're the two most popular current shows.

Are you kidding me? Game of Thrones is a shambolic disaster of a show. There is literally nothing more overrated on TV - no-one even watches it for anything except a) it is willing to kill important characters and b) gratuitous violence and sex. What is the value of Game of Thrones? It is not exactly literature. (I beg to be proved wrong?) House of Cards is in a different class.

And so, I think, is Breaking Bad. I agree that the first two seasons are shockingly boring. Maybe even the third is pretty much a waste of time. Read the Wikipedia for the first three and watch Seasons 4 and 5, and let's see if you still think Game of Thrones even comes close.

I watched the whole lot. Thought it was very pretty, but very boring.

Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones?

I'm surprised by this opinion. But I guess you're entitled to your own. I wouldn't say Breaking Bad is particularly "great". I do think it is one of the best Western TV shows but if someone thinks it is overrated they may be right.

If you have an argument for why Game of Thrones is particularly good, though, I would be delighted to hear it. If you replaced Breaking Bad in your title with Game of Thrones, it would be a thread I might have posted.

My opinion is Breaking Bad is bad. Game of Thrones on the other hand is literally my favorite TV show on at the moment. It's spectacularly good.

It's something to do with how the writer manages to reflect modern political tensions in a medieval setting, and how it's kind of 'realistic' fantasy in that the good guys don't win, and neither do the bad guys. You never know what's coming next (unless you read the books), the dialogue is cracking, the characters are believable, and all have quality back stories, the houses all have stories going back thousands of years, the level of detail is immense, the setting is well chosen, the episodes are well paced, tense and dramatic without being too contrived, I could go on
