Isn't it the other way round? The book closes with "I was cured all right", with Alex back to his ultra-violent ways, while the film (and book thereof) has an added chapter at the end that makes for a fairytale ending, with everything turning out OK in the end because Alex grows out of the desire to commit ultraviolence in the first place.

To quote from my edition of A Clockwork Orange, referring to the last chapter (excised from the film)

"Kubrick and a number of critics found this last chapter too blandly optimistic: to end with Alex's cynical return to his violent ways is, they say, tougher and more realistic."

The unabridged and complete edition of the book ends with Alex wanting to be a father, and deciding to seek a mother to his son, rather than a devotchka to have a bit of the old in out with.

Since being part of the Matrix would mean you have no way of telling whether you're part of it, surely it would be the most pleasant of those on the list?
