I love anime and manga, couldn't find too much on it I suppose I'd need to know what to search
usually putting in the main name/abbreviation works. But it's also much more active when new episodes are being aired. The two main series I'm watching at the moment are Free! and Sword Art Online - both are just started their second seasons, so there's been a lot of activity on those tags. But other stuff I like is less active.

This is my opinion, perfectly captured in video form.

Why have you turned off PM's and VM's.

Non capisco perché vi viene così dire.

A couple of weeks ago. 4chan was as it normally with a few extra crazies. And Tumblr was not a pleasant sight to behold. Gore and porn on many of the popular tags such as feminism and so on
    I'm glad to hear.

It's brilliant! It's a lot of fun once you're following a couple of good blogs, start off with a couple of friends, then you'll come across some of the popular blogs such as http://pizza.tumblr.com/ or perchu or fishingboatproceeds.
If you're wondering why they're 'popular', a lot of people talk about pizza, so somebody managed to get the pizza URL quickly and you'll see her reply on a lot of posts regarding pizzas. Perchu had a full blown rant about 'moreos' and it was apparently so funny everyone constantly goes on about it, he'll block you if you ask him about it though. Fishingboatproceeds is the tumblr page for John Green who is the author of The Fault In Our Stars and other books that apparently tear your heart out, but a lot of people seem to love authors with blogs.

I'll put the rest in a spoiler so I don't clog up the thread with a large post
      Spoiler:

Tumblr is a terrible place too though, sometimes I can't stand it. You get a LOT, and I mean A LOT of bad science posts and scaremongering about, anything claimed as fact must be taken with a truckload of salt, even if it's a 'fact' about something hilarious there's a good chance it's completely false and everybody is reblogging it just because it's funny.

You come across some posts where there's an argument going on, and there's always somebody wrong and sometimes you have no idea who is right, but people are reblogging it anyway because everyone seems to take sides, tip: avoid participating in these posts

      A Short Introduction

      Fandoms
Fandoms are something that you'll no doubt come across. Be it about a particular book series, film, TV series, anything really, bathrooms, guitars, candles. Seriously, you name it, you'll find it. They're mostly harmless but a notable one to watch out for is a conglomeration known as Superwholock. This is a combination fandom who occasionally claim to be the largest one of all, consisting of Supernatural, Doctor Who and Sherlock and if you're not interested just ignore it altogether.

Secondary warning about Supernatural though, they claim to have a GIF to respond to anything and it'll be pointless trying to find out something they don't have a GIF for.

      Reaction GIFs & Images
A big part about tumblr is its ability to play GIFs without needing to open them separately such as on Facebook and TSR, so you have the chance to use a short animated clip to represent a particular emotion or reaction. The annoying part about this is that it makes sense, you look at the GIF and you think "Yeah, that's exactly how I feel" even though you're looking at a dramatic zoom into someone's elbow. Same thing for pictures, you see a picture of a chihuahua standing on 4 hamburgers with a skeptical expression and somehow you know exactly when to use it.

      Pornography
If you're not following people who reblog that sort of stuff, you'll avoid it easily. I think there's something in the Tumblr policy about uploading pornography but I haven't really had much of a look into it, mainly because I'm not interested. It's easily found though, and if you tag a post with 'nsfw' then you'll automatically get about 15 pornography blogs following you guaranteed.

It's not just restricted to pictures and GIFs and videos of naked people, oh no. Lemme return to fandoms for a moment. there would be a LOT of fanart flying about, of course, depending on who you're following your exposure would likely be limited. But I've got a couple of friends on there who are fans of Soul Eater [[Both Anime & Manga]], Metal Gear Solid, Sherlock etc and I often see a lot of fanart depicting homosexual pairings, moreso than hetero or anything else. I don't really have a problem with it because I just scroll past, it doesn't really phase me but if I really didn't like it I'd just unfollow them. But yeah, a lot of porn could be flying about if you're following such kind of blogs.

      Tags & Triggers
Everyone knows the internet brings a lot of different people into the same place, so there are different cultures, different beliefs, interests and fears. Tags act similarly to hashtags on Twitter and Facebook, except there's no need to go #sweg at the end of your post, they're typed into a box that's usually at the bottom of the post editor. You can set up your dashboard [[Or 'wall', if it makes more sense that way]] to show all posts for a particular tag. I personally haven't tried to figure it out but my understanding is if you set 'dog' to be a tag to follow, any posts tagged 'dog' will come up onto your dashboard, so you can reblog more dog posts to share with your friends or just to simply place it onto your blog.

Triggers are things that make people scared or uncomfortable, for example a picture of a spider or gored face could cause a panic attack for someone. As another example, GIFs could trigger someone's epilepsy and cause dangerous seizures. For this, it's good to tag your posts well enough to ensure a decent warning for anyone who wishes to avoid them.

But don't worry, you don't always have to tag everything and use 5 million tags just to cover all your bases. It helps to know your followers, if somebody asks you if you could tag a particular type of post such as 'sherlock', it doesn't really hurt to do so, it's possible to set up automatic tagging for types of posts too.

      URLs
You can have many different blogs on the same account, a lot of artists use multiple blogs such as one being a personal blog, another purely for art and occasionally a smut blog because they'd rather not tie it in with their personal blog in case you've got family or friends who read your personal blog and you'd rather them not see that side of you.

You can change your URL as many times as you want, of course you can't have the same as another person so it comes to times when you would have to make small changes to it in order to get a similar URL, a bit like how e-mails go, but less permanent. Getting original URLs are sometimes envied, for example an actor or character's name, because a lot of people would want it. You'll be at risk of Anon Hate however, simply out of envy.

      Anons and Asks
You have the option to include an ask box to your blog, this way you can have people send you questions or messages whenever, and you can respond to them whenever, be it publicly or privately. Often someone would get bored while on late at night and reblog a post with a list of questions, sometimes captioned "Send me a number/symbol" that corresponds to a question, although personally I'd prefer someone to ask the question rather than me having to search for the question list to find what the question way in the first place.

You also have the option to turn on anonymous asks. This gives people the opportunity to ask you a question without your identity being revealed. Of course this comes at a risk, people would send nasty and harmful messages to you simply because you'll never know who they are, and it has caused a great deal of problems for a lot of users who have been targeted by anons, although turning off anons is always an option still, and then blocking the users who continue to post out of anon.

People without a tumblr account can still post anonymous questions to someone, Ask.fm was pretty much like this, but there was a lot of news reports going around because these anonymous posters caused hell to some users, prompting the Ask.fm site to only allow anonymous questions from people who have accounts, making it easier to block them. Tumblr hasn't followed suit as to so far, and I'm not sure if they ever will.

      Important stuff!!
Some handy things to keep in mind!
      • Keep a personal tag on any of your own posts, you'll be able to set up a link on your page that will keep all posts with a particular tag together. This way if you're ever wanting to look at all the posts that you have made, you can just search or follow the link on your blog page.
      • XKit is hugely recommended. Tumblr still has a lot of programming flaws that they never seem to fix [[Video player for example]] and sometimes it's a bit of hassle to open pages or lose your place while you're scrolling on your dashboard. XKit makes it easier to reblog posts too, it certainly was a lot worse when tumblr used to take you to a brand new page for reblogging.
      • Tumblr Saviour is helpful for people who wish to avoid posts with particular tags, it automatically removes posts with the tag you have blacklisted so this would be helpful for people with particular fears or discomforts [[Of course this would require people to tag their posts]]
      • The J and K keys. J allows you to skip ahead to the next post, which is extremely handy if you end up scrolling through a long post, a notorious example would be the 'Do you like the colour of the sky' post which is an extremely tall picture that takes a while to scroll with your mouse wheel, the K goes back a post. [[PS, this works on facebook too]]
      • If you want to reblog something quickly without going to the reblog post window, hold the alt key and click the reblog button

Wow did you write all of this? Now that's dedication! I myself was trapped in fandom tumblr for a looooong time as I'm a fan of both Supernatural and Sherlock, but Doctor Who just didn't do it for me. Plus the lack of punctuation thing they have on there was beginning to affect how I wrote (), and then the uber-feminists came along and in the end I had to escape it lol. I've now kind of traversed into "hipster" tumblr where it's all hippie and obscure bands and tie dye and weird artwork. Don't use Tumblr as much anymore but it can be really very fun
