They're not unrelated, but this is about being ready in advance - gambling on the probabilities of events occurring. If you play it well, and aren't extremely unlucky (aren't hit by a bus), enough random events will occur for success (relative to where you would be otherwise) to become a certainty rather than a possibility.

I haven't tested it. I'm very lazy.
