Not to defend the BNP but they do have non white members and their policy is actually to deport those who can't prove 2 generations born here (grand parents).

Vile national socialists but its not quite as you say.
It was once overt BNP policy to deport non-whites, and I think we all know that it would be again if they got elected. They've obviously had a bit of a softening up by their PR department, but you'd have to be very naive to think that their core membership have changed their views that much. Their leader is, after all, a holocaust denier.

UKIP, on the other hand, have never espoused any such views.

Yep. Mark Reckless never called for repatriation either, it was embarrassing how the media pretended he did.

There seem to be a worrying number of people on this thread and in society generally who seem to think that having border controls and enforcing them is somehow racist.

UKIP's detractors seem to think the land area, number of homes and quality of infrastructure increases every time an immigrant arrives in the country.

It's not just that. UKIP are led by a man who lacks any principles. Isn't Farage getting millions of pounds from the EU he despises so much?

I don't support UKIP, but I agree with you that the accusations of racism etc. are wrong.

Perhaps (I wouldn't say they were any more bourgeois than Labour or the Tories though). But that doesn't count as racist.

Who knows. I was also wondering why Hong Kong is so racist. And it's interesting that Pakistan is relatively non-racist, while India is apparently extremely so.
Aha! Finally I found the source of your map. I google-searched the image until I came upon this article. It turns out that it was based on REALLY faulty statistics for certain countries, to the point where yes/no responses were actually inverted in the case of, you guessed it, Bangladesh and Hong Kong!

The original article, now with corrected image, comes from Washington Post, you can read it here. Note the correction at the end.

My own opinion is that this report is completely unscientific (just look at Japan!) What does 'different race' mean? Does the answer even mean anything when the nation under consideration does not even have a visible/vocal minority? etc

To answer your question, my impression is that Indians are racist because there's a large Muslim minority and a large animist/shamanist minority in their North-Eastern states (the states against whom they're most racist against, look up 'racism in India' on wiki). Also, don't forget that India is the birthplace of the caste-system, that must have something to do with it. OTOH, Pakistan is relatively homogeneous religiously.

For other countries, there is always an explanation IMO. Jordan has received a lot of refugees from Iraq; also Arab countries have always been very racist (even against other Muslims). Nigeria is split right down the middle with Muslims/Christians and terrorism is a daily phenomenon in the northern states. I bet most of Africa is racist as **** anyway.

France has the same population as the UK and received 50% more refugees between 2007 and 2011. In 2012 they received 2x the number of asylum seekers. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refugee#Asylum_seekers

Ah, well that explains the anomalous results for Hong Kong and India / Bangladesh.

Nevertheless, it doesn't matter what the root causes are - France is a more racist place than the UK, and the UK is a very non-racist place (even anti-racist). That was the point I was trying to make.
