Hi everyone! I got an offer for a school direct place from Leicester Uni, at a school in Warwickshire! I'm doing Media/English and am so delighted!
For anyone that might want to know the process of the interviews for Leicester school direct..
I had an interview at the school itself where I went into a couple of the Media classes to interact with the students, and then I had a tour of the school then a short interview with the deputy head/head of Media. I was then told by them on the day that they'd love to have me, so it was just down to the Uni interview.
The second interview at the Uni involved a written subject task and an interview with a subject specialist, about 25 mins.
I then got an offer dependent on passing my skills tests, so fingers crossed for them!

Only advice would be to be yourself! Don't stress too much (easier said than done!) and try and make the children laugh. What book have you chosen? Use lots of expression in your voice - maybe take a prop with you that relates to the book? Just remember to ask them what they thought of the story afterwards. Good luck x

    Hi,
I have chosen 'Beauty and the Beast' and I am planning to get the children to read a fewpages each and ask questions like what type of story is and in the end ask questions like what they thought of the story etc...and 're tell story in your their own words. I will only 20 mins to do the task.

    Hi,

I have an interview on Thursday for Primary Education (School Direct) with Learners First (in Rotherham) I have to deliver a teaching task as part of my interview, I only got the email on Friday asking me to come in so I have had little time to plan anything (I'm currently working full-time too) Any Ideas? or just words of support! haha :P

"The teaching task will consist of a starter activity based on mental and oral Maths or a SPAG/GHASP session, which you will deliver to a class of Year 5 Children. The task should last no longer than 20 minutes."

    Also Good Luck Guys!!
Hi Emma! I've private messaged you..how did your interview go? I'm going to guess you've already had your interview already wish I had seen this earlier. I had my interview with learners first 2 weeks ago, got an offer and accepted xx

Hello! I have been offered a place in two SD pisitions. One of them provides the PGCE and the other one provides 60 credits towards masters degree. Does anybody knows the difference between these two? Is it very important to get the PGCE?

    Thanks!

Ps: For the people having interviews soon just relax and be yourself!

I'd go for the pgce one. It's recognised in other countries and it's what the majority of people do. Some schools may be weary of employing people without one as they think it's the "norm" for staff to have them.

Some SD like mine offer the PGCE and the credits so it's worth you ringing up your unveristy providers and checking

I would definitely go for the PGCE one too! I could be wrong, but I thought usually when a programme offered you masters credits, it is because of the work you were doing towards a PGCE which contributed? So they might both offer it? I might not be making much sense here haha, but I know what I mean...

Basically I was under the impression that the 60 masters credits was because a PGCE sometimes contributed to them. Where are you applying? Good luck!

You apply to School Direct in the same way as any other course: if you go on www.ucas.com/ucas/teacher-training all the info will be on there with a good guide on applying. There should still be places for Sep 2015. Good luck!

Once you have filled out your application and sent it off, and after your references have been provided, the placements will receive your application then will either email you or contact you through UCAS regarding an interview or a rejection - it can take up to a few weeks for them to respond. Hope it goes well
